Matt Cardona has shared footage of the exact moment he suffered the torn triceps that has temporarily put his WWE return on hold.
The injury occurred during Cardona’s match against Kit Wilson as part of the WWE Main Event portion of the August 21 SmackDown taping. With the match airing on YouTube this week, Cardona took to social media to explain how a seemingly routine move resulted in the injury.
According to Cardona, he first realized something wasn’t right after delivering a dropkick from the second rope. Because he had performed the move countless times throughout his career, however, he initially struggled to believe he could have suffered a serious injury from it. “Here’s the footage of me tearing my tricep during a match against Kit Wilson,” Cardona wrote on X. “I hit my dropkick off the second rope and something didn’t feel right. But there’s no way I could hurt myself on a move I’ve done hundreds of times…right?”
Cardona continued the match, but it didn’t take long for him to realize that the problem was more serious than he initially hoped. “Then I closelined him over the top rope and that felt weird too,” he added. “Once I grabbed the rope for my baseball slide, I knew I tore my tricep.”
Cardona has since undergone surgery to repair the injury and is now beginning the rehabilitation process.
Despite the setback, Cardona made it clear that he intends to return to the ring once he has recovered. “Injuries suck, but they are part of the job,” Cardona wrote. “I’m recovering after surgery and start rehab today. I’ll be back. I’M NOT FINISHED.”
No timetable has been announced for Cardona’s return to WWE competition.
