Rey Mysterio believes The Undertaker has found the right formula for helping AAA evolve without changing what makes the promotion unique.

Mysterio, who currently serves as AAA General Manager, discussed The Undertaker’s behind-the-scenes involvement with the promotion during an interview with The Sun UK ahead of TripleMania 34.

According to Mysterio, The Undertaker made it clear from the beginning that his intention was not to overhaul AAA’s established identity but to build upon it. “I think Taker said it best. When he first came down to AAA, he said, ‘I don’t wanna change what you guys have already built here, I just wanna add,’” Mysterio said.

Mysterio believes that philosophy has helped AAA incorporate more long-term storytelling, giving angles and rivalries additional time to develop before culminating in major matches. “So, it was perfect. Now the fans around Mexico who are not accustomed to maybe seeing long storylines or sequences of matches, or sequences of stories that lead into a particular or special match, that is now all happening,” he continued.

For Mysterio, combining AAA’s established style with elements of the longer-form storytelling WWE audiences have become accustomed to provides an effective balance for both Mexican fans and viewers around the world. “It’s like the perfect formula for the Mexican fan base. And for the rest of the world, it’s something that they’ve been watching for years in WWE,” he said.

Mysterio went on to praise The Undertaker’s work and said he has enjoyed being part of AAA during the promotion’s current era. “So, I think Undertaker is doing incredible there and I’m just enjoying every moment, you know, every time I step into AAA.”

The Undertaker has taken on a significant creative role with AAA as the relationship between the promotion and WWE has continued to develop.

Mysterio, meanwhile, will be part of the action at TripleMania 34, where he is scheduled to face Omos on Night One.
