With Rockstar Spud returning to the ring as part of the PROGRESS promotion in his native UK, fans may have wondered what this means for his WWE role as Drake Maverick. Spud, whose real name is James Curtin, doesn’t appear to be leaving WWE just yet. According to Fightful.com, he was listed as a writer for RAW just last week.
The PROGRESS press release also noted that Maverick continues to work with WWE in a backstage role. He hasn’t wrestled a match in five years, and his upcoming appearance seems more like a special event than a full-time return to the ring. He likely hopes this return goes better than his infamous match in London with EC3 in TNA, where he was hung upside down and had his head shaved.
Bobby Roode’s status has also come into question since WWE moved him to the alumni section on its website. However, he has still been seen in the background of segments. The same Fightful report states that Roode remains a producer and has no intentions of returning to the ring. While both men could potentially move on at any time, they currently seem settled in their respective roles.
