WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has praised AEW’s approach to presenting its roster, explaining why the promotion’s television product began appealing to him more than WWE’s programming.

During a conversation with Kofi Kingston on The Mick and Kenny Show, Foley reflected on taking a break from watching professional wrestling before finding himself increasingly drawn to AEW.

The wrestling legend specifically highlighted the company’s ability to make performers throughout the card feel important, rather than focusing exclusively on a select group of main event stars. “I took a break from wrestling for a while. And then I found the AEW show was speaking more to me than the WWE show. One thing I marvel at was, like, ‘wow, they really make the middle of the card meaningful.’”

Foley went on to discuss conversations he had with AEW President Tony Khan, revealing that he was particularly impressed by how the company gives its wrestlers a sense of purpose regardless of their position on the card. “When I started talking to Tony [Khan], I was like, ‘I don’t know how you do it, but everyone who goes out there plays a role and has a sense of importance.’”

The former WWE Champion contrasted that approach with promotions where he believes a smaller group of wrestlers receives most of the attention, while others struggle to establish the same level of importance. “Whereas elsewhere, it’s like these 10 guys are where they are, and then all the others—I don’t want to say they’re an afterthought, and again, I don’t want to disparage anyone, but I do think this company has done a better job of making everyone meaningful.”

Foley emphasized that he was not attempting to criticize WWE or its performers, but rather acknowledge an aspect of AEW’s presentation that he particularly appreciates.

He also praised the depth of AEW’s roster, suggesting that the company’s approach allows a wider range of wrestlers to be presented as credible contenders for its top championship. “So, with such a deep roster, on any given night, a guy can step up and battle for the AEW title. I just think it’s a marvel.”

Foley’s comments reflect his appreciation for AEW’s emphasis on giving performers throughout the roster meaningful roles and opportunities.

While the WWE Hall of Famer remains closely associated with his legendary WWE career, he made it clear that AEW’s approach to showcasing its talent has made a strong impression on him.
