AEW Dynamite Review – October 10, 2023

NJPW Strong Openweight & ROH World Titles Match
Eddie Kingston (c) & (c) vs. Minoru Suzuki (Pre Show)

Eddie Kingston & Minoru Suzuki starts the match with chops to the chest before Suzuki sends Kingston down on the mat with a chop before picking him up and knocking him back down with a forearm then Suzuki starts bending Kingston’s finger back but as Rick Knox tells him to stop Suzuki scares Knox away.

They go back to more chops as Kingston corners Suzuki with them but he eats them all up until eventually, Kingston takes Suzuki down with an exploder suplex for a two count then they go back & forth a bit until Kingston hits the Uraken but Suzuki kicks out at two.

After running the ropes a bit, Kingston hits another Uraken but this time Suzuki kicks out right at one then 1 more Uraken followed by the enziguri and Northern Lights Bomb gets Kingston the win.

Winner & Still NJPW Strong Openweight & ROH World Champions: Eddie Kingston (STILL CHAMPIONS!!!!) (Recommend)

After the match they have a bit of a staredown until lovingly giving each other 1 more chop each before embracing as Kingston gave Suzuki the ring.

We go to Tony Khan backstage with Tony Schiavone & he says that AEW doctors could not clear Jon Moxley as FTW Champion Hook & Orange Cassidy join in. Hook tells Khan that Orange deserves the match and Khan agrees and it’s made for tonight.

Kicking off the main show with TNT Champion Christian Cage in the production truck who talks about Bryan Danielson vs. Swerve Strickland opening the show as the winner will face him on Saturday’s Collision. Cage says he’s okay with facing either one and before Adam Copeland’s match he might have to come out and elaborate on the 3 words he told him last week before saying he’s the reason why the 1st 30 minutes tonight are commercial free and tells the truck to roll the intro.

TNT Title #1 Contenders Match
Bryan Danielson vs. Swerve Strickland

Match starts off with a test of strength before having a stalemate then they move onto slaps before running the ropes until Swerve Strickland trips up Bryan Danielson as they go into trading pin attempts.

They head to the apron where Danielson connects with a boot before they start chopping away at each other until Strickland drops Danielson with a side slam right on the hardest part of the ring. Strickland heads to the top rope and lands a diving elbow to the back of Danielson.

Strickland continues on the attack with a powerslam and brainbuster & it gets a two count with his knee on Danielson’s chest then he goes for a 450 splash but Danielson puts his knees up to stop it.

Strickland goes to the outside to regroup but Danielson meets him there with a flying knee off the apron. Danielson heads to the top and hits a missile dropkick then Danielson starts hitting his kicks before going for the count but it gets a two count.

Strickland then kicks Danielson to the outside but misses when trying to dive onto him as Danielson goes for the dive but Strickland stops him before placing him onto the outside of the turnbuckle in a tree of woe position where he takes him out with Swerve Stomp.

Strickland goes for Swerve Stomp inside but Danielson dodges it and puts on the single leg crab then transitioning into a heel hook before they tussle on the top rope for a bit until Danielson takes Strickland down with a back body drop.

Danielson starts kicking Strickland’s head in then right into LeBell Lock but Strickland is able to stop it with his foot on the rope. Danielson starts going for kicks in the corner but collapses.

Strickland capitalizes with House Call followed by Swerve Stomp then goes for the cover but Danielson kicks out at two.

Prince Nana gets on the apron as Strickland grabs Prince Nana’s crown but Hangman Page runs out and takes the crown away. Danielson & Strickland go back & forth until Danielson hits Busaiku Knee for the win.

Winner & #1 Contender To The TNT Title: Bryan Danielson (Recommend)

We go to another Samoa Joe video that’s filled with highlights. Joe says this Saturday on Collision he begins his road to championship gold and shows everybody why he is the man that takes what he wants from anyone he wants to & this Saturday he will begin his ascension towards greatness.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Chris Jericho

Powerhouse Hobbs goes right after Chris Jericho in the corner by clubbing him before hitting a spinebuster for a two count then Hobbs hits another spinebuster on Jericho and tells him to give it up. Hobbs follows with a 3rd one then screams at him that anybody can get it’ and takes him down with a headbutt.

Hobbs hits a 4th spinebuster as Don Callis screams for him to hurt him then a 5th spinebuster as Jericho then tries to fight his way back up as he tries to knock Hobbs down.

Jericho dodges Hobbs in the corner and hits a Codebreaker for a two count. Hobbs starts punching down on Jericho and hits the 6th spinebuster.

Jericho escapes & chop blocks Hobbs down and puts on Walls Of Jericho but Hobbs powers out and hits World’s Strongest Slam for a two count. Hobbs hits another World’s Strongest Slam and puts his knee on Jericho’s face to get the win.

Winner: Powerhouse Hobbs

After the match Hobbs hits another World’s Strongest Slam to Jericho before leaving with Callis.

We go to earlier today from Roderick Strong’s home as Adam Cole says he’s been there for a week and needs to go have surgery. Strong tells Cole he needs him to cut his grass. Cole questions why Mike Bennett & Matt Taven can’t do it but begrudgingly does it as they tell him he missed a spot. Cole says he needs to go home and change his shirt but they give him a neck strong shirt as Cole wonders what the stuffed giraffe is. They call him Rick Strong as Cole says he wants to watch Dynamite but they don’t have a TV. Strong says TV is the devil as Cole starts to leave. Strong says he needs 1 more thing as the screen cuts to black.

International Title Match
Rey Fenix (c) vs. Orange Cassidy

Rey Fenix & Orange Cassidy starts the match with chops and forearms before Fenix down and hits Orange Cassidy with a Frog Splash for a two count. Cassidy kicks Fenix to the outside follows him and starts whipping Fenix against the barricades.

They head into the crowd for a bit before Cassidy drives Fenix into the ring post then back inside Cassidy is able to stop Fenix in the corner and hits him with a diving DDT followed by a tornado DDT for a two count.

Cassidy goes for Orange Punch but Fenix stops him with a superkick as Fenix struggles a bit as Cassidy hits him with Beach Break for a two count followed by Orange Punch & Mouse Trap to get the win.

Winner & New International Champion: Orange Cassidy (NEW CHAMPION!!!!!)

After the match Pentagon Jr has a face off with Cassidy as Best Friends, Hook & Rocky Romero congratulate him.

Backstage RJ City is with Toni Storm and wonders what she means by saying it’s time for her closeup. Storm says she made her own silent picture called Lover’s Lament and says who needs noises when they have faces. We go to picture in picture as we see the film. We see Storm by herself in a room dancing and doing some sort of routine including pretending to drive a car all while in black & white.

Wardlow vs. Matt Sydal

Wardlow attacks Matt Sydal in the corner right away and hits him with 4 powerbombs before Aubrey Edwards stops the match.

Winner By Referee Stoppage: Wardlow

After the match Wardlow exits through the crowd.

Backstage Renee Paquette is trying to get an update on Chris Jericho as Daniel Garcia asks how he’s doing. Matt Menard stops Garcia and says We are better than this as Garcia says he was checking on someone they used to care about.

Hangman Page vs. Jay White

Jay White quickly heads to the outside to regroup with Bullet Club Gold then Hangman Page dives onto White on the outside and dares the rest of the Bullet Club Gold to do something as we go to picture in picture.

After the break White hits a dragon screw on Page and starts mocking the air guitar of Hiroshi Tanahashi. White stays in control until Page stops him with a Death Valley Driver.

Page now stays in control as White heads to the outside and dodges a diving Page who lands on his feet and hits Page with a pop up powerbomb on the apron.

Back inside Page hits a sit out powerbomb for a two count before White suplexes Page right into the turnbuckle then they fight on the apron a bit as White takes out Page with a knee breaker on the apron. Juice Robinson & The Gunns start talking trash to Page before we go to a another picture in picture.

After the 2nd break they are on the top rope where Page hits a fallaway slam/moonsault combo but shows signs of injury with his right knee. White comes back with a uranage for a two count. Page comes back with a rolling elbow and goes for Buckshot Lariat but White stops him with a dragon screw in the ropes.

They head back to the top rope where Page guillotines White down, knocking him to the outside where Page follows him with an Orihara moonsault. Back inside Page tries the Buckshot Lariat again but White collapses just to lure Page in with a flatliner and a German Suplex for a two count.

White hits a chop block and a sleeper suplex but Page comes right back with a big clothesline. White stops a Buckshot Lariat attempt but Page hits the Dead Eye for a two count.

The rest of the Bullet Club Gold distracts the referee as Prince Nana runs down to the ring as Page & Nana tussle with Nana’s crown White rolls up Page for the win.

Winner: Jay White

Adam Page chases Prince Nana to the back as AEW World Champion MJF makes his way out but is angry and tells them to cut his music. He calls White a son of a bitch but tells him to give his AEW World Title back since he has the match for Full Gear. The crowd chants give it back as White says we don’t want to hear from MJF, they want to hear from J A Y and tells the crowd to shoosh. White calls the Triple B the Bang Bang Belt and says he was going to give the AEW World Title back until the crowd told him to shut the f*ck up so he changed his mind.

MJF says he will be the bigger man and says White will do whatever he can to get what he wants and he could give less of a shit to the three men with him and he is using him and he would know that as that’s right out of the MJF Playbook. MJF talks about waking up every day and trying to be a better man and for the 1st time in his life he has earned the fans’ respect. He says there are 2 things in this world he cares about Adam Cole & the AEW World Title that White is holding. MJF says that’s not a belt but his livelihood and his legacy because when you win the AEW World Title that makes you the best wrestler in the world. MJF says he hates White’s guts and if he wasn’t surrounded by Bullet Club Gold he would break White’s neck and take the AEW World Title back. MJF says he knows how talented White is and someday he will join the very exclusive club of being an AEW World Champion however that day is not today.

MJF tells White to be a man and give him back what he has not yet earned. White thanks MJF for asking nicely instead of in his little devil mask but says MJF has to earn it and win it officially and the match will be at Full Gear and tells MJF to be patient but he will fail. White tells MJF to find three people and if they win maybe he can get the AEW World Title back. Robinson says he heard that next week there is a Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale and he is throwing his name in to win the battle royal and take MJF’s ring and have everything he loves. Juice shows a roll of quarters with MJF’s name on it. MJF says if he comes near him with those quarters he will end his life.

We go to picture in picture as there is a 2nd act for Toni Storm’s Lover’s Lament.

Women’s Title Match
Saraya (c) vs. Hikaru Shida

Saraya starts the match talking trash but Hikaru Shida gets right in her face with forearms to the face. Saraya corners Shida and delivers forearms herself before Shida turns them on her. Shida hits Saraya with an enziguri & that sends her to the outside to walk around the ring and start talking trash to the fans.

Back in the ring they start rolling around while trading elbow strikes. Shida attacks Saraya on the apron as a masked individual tries to spray paint Shida & it’s revealed to be Ruby Soho as Shida turns the spray paint onto her. Toni Storm runs out and chases Ruby through the crowd with a shoe as we go to picture in picture.

After the break they are running the ropes until Shida takes down Saraya with a jumping knee strike before delivering punches in the corner followed by a missile dropkick off the middle ropes for a two count before they start fighting on the top rope before Saraya sends Shida flying to the outside not before hitting the apron first back first.

They fight on the apron where Shida hits Saraya with a stalling German suplex followed by a Meteora off the apron. Shida sends Saraya back inside and hits a running knee for a two count.

Shida hits the Question Mark Kick and goes to the top rope but Saraya stops her with a kick and hits the Knight Cap but Shida kicks out at two.

Saraya grabs the kendo stick but as Paul Turner takes it away she uses spray paint in Shida’s face and hits another Knight Cap but Shida still kicks out.

Shida fights back and hits Falcon Arrow as they go back & forth with pin attempts until Shida holds on for the win.

Winner & New Women’s Champion: Hikaru Shida (NEW CHAMPION!!!!)

Excalibur says that Chris Jericho has been taken to a hospital due to the attacks from Powerhouse Hobbs earlier as Tony Schiavone announces that over 1 million dollars in toys will donated to children this December from AEW.

We see Don Callis & Konosuke Takeshita as Callis says he asked for 10 minutes to talk but wasn’t given it, so instead they hold up signs during picture in picture Sammy Guevara style that says Hobbs destroyed Kenny Omega he then destroyed Chris Jericho. The Don Callis Family is here to exact revenge and that revenge is far from over. Sammy Guevara will be back. You will pay for what you did to him.

Renee Paquette is with MJF and asks what’s going on with MJF. MJF says the old one would freak out on him but he’s not in the mood and just wants to call his boy and get advice. He goes to call Cole and asks where the hell he’s been. Cole apologizes and says he’s still at Roderick Strong as he needs his help. MJF says he needs Cole’s help but the connection is bad and the call is dropped. Trios Champions The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn walks in as Max Caster suggests they team up with MJF to take on Bullet Club Gold but MJF walks away. Gunn asks Caster why he would just offer his services and asks Caster what his obsession is with MJF. Caster says he’s known MJF for 10 years and he’s his friend and needs his help plus he likes it when MJF plays hard to get.

Christian Cage tells Kansas City to keep the noise down and that they should be happy to have a champion to be proud of and unlike the Kansas City Chiefs they don’t need help to get wins. Cage talks about the 3 words that he said to the Adam Copeland and how it left everybody in shock and the stupid look on his face he’s seen before. Cage says he didn’t take a group and dress them like it’s Halloween and be their leader but he isn’t a leader to his group he is their father. Cage brings up how Copeland wanted to finish their careers together and it was funny as that same sentiment wasn’t there when he was being held back despite being the more talented of the 2. Cage talks about his career going to new heights, and he doesn’t need Copeland, Copeland needs him. Cage talks about having fans all over the world including Copeland’s wife Beth Phoenix. Cage says he’s getting bored of this but says that Copeland’s daughters Lyric & Ruby will be taken care of and tells Beth to put some clean sheets on the bed because their new father is coming home.

Adam Copeland runs to the ring and gets in Luchasaurus’ face but Nick Wayne takes out Copeland from behind knocking him down as Bryce Remsburg runs out to check on Copeland. Commentary brings up Copeland’s past neck injuries and how he’s struggling to get up before they start the match.

Adam Copeland vs. Luchasaurus

Luchasaurus goes right after Copeland and hits a Tombstone Piledriver but Copeland kicks out at two as Christian is sitting on a chair on the ramp.

Copeland tries to fight Luchasaurus off but he is able to take him down with a suplex then Luchasaurus knocks Copeland to the outside as they go to picture in picture.

After the break Luchasaurus drags steel steps near the apron and goes to chokeslam Copeland on them but he fights him off and dropkicks Luchasaurus in the knees and hits him with a diving DDT off the apron.

Back inside Copeland takes Luchasaurus down with a crossbody to his back as both men are now laid out then they go back & forth until Copeland hits an Impaler DDT for a two count.

Copeland starts climbing the top rope but Luchasaurus kicks him off and tries to suplex Copeland off the top rope onto the steel steps on the outside but Copeland punches his way out and hits a superplex to Luchasaurus back into the ring.

Christian distracts the referee as Nick Wayne sets up a chair in the corner.as Copeland goes to spear Luchasaurus but misses and goes into the chair and gets hit with a chokeslam from Luchasaurus but Copeland kicks out at two.

They fight on the apron before Copeland leaps from the apron to the steel steps onto Luchasaurus with a spear on the outside then back inside Wayne distracts the referee as Christian tries to take out Copeland with his TNT Title.

Copeland takes the TNT Title and knocks out Luchasaurus with it before tossing the TNT Title back to Christian and knocking down Wayne. Luchasaurus starts yelling at Christian thinking he hit him as Copeland takes out Luchasaurus with a spear for the win.

Winner: Adam Copeland

After the match Nick Wayne runs in and starts attacking Copeland with Luchasaurus but Bryan Danielson runs out and takes out Christian. Cage, Luchasaurus & Wayne start triple teaming on Danielson before Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta run out to even it up. Mogul Embassy run out and join the brawl before Hangman Page joins in as well. Copeland takes out Wayne with a spear as Danielson is making Christian tap out to the LeBell Lock to close out this week’s Dynamite.
