Based on internal company discussions, multiple sources continue to report that WWE Hall of Famer Edge is expected to join AEW.

According to a new report from PWTorch, Edge presented WWE with what it would take to keep his services, but WWE declined to meet his request.

This has sparked speculation within WWE that Edge is on his way to AEW and knew what AEW would or could offer him at the time, which could be based on discussions about AEW pay with other wrestlers of his star power, or some of his close friends in the company, such as Christian Cage or AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR.

WWE officials have stated that they are not offended by the possibility of Edge joining AEW. Edge’s 25th anniversary was celebrated on last Friday’s SmackDown from Toronto because he is well-liked within the company. Furthermore, WWE is always looking for new ways to create special segments and episodes, and Friday’s SmackDown was an opportunity to shine a positive light on Edge. WWE officials also hoped that the first Edge vs. Sheamus match would draw a larger crowd than a different main event would.

AEW President Tony Khan is a big fan of The Rated R Superstar and would obviously value his addition to the roster, whether as a wrestler or in another capacity.

Edge recently confirmed that his WWE contract will expire at the end of September, but his match with Sheamus on Friday was the final match on the contract. There has been no word on whether a non-compete clause is attached to the contract, which will be expiring soon.
