Despite previous reports that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had pushed for a character shift, WWE reportedly has no current plans to turn Cody Rhodes heel.
According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE remains committed to keeping “The American Nightmare” as a top babyface. The decision is driven by multiple factors, including the significant revenue generated from live event gates, strong merchandise sales, and robust ticket demand, all of which are closely tied to Rhodes’ current fan-favorite status.
While Rhodes did receive a mixed reaction—particularly some boos—during his match against John Cena in the lead-up to WrestleMania, WWE has not adjusted his creative direction. Internally, the belief is that turning Rhodes heel at this stage could disrupt the momentum he’s built since finishing his story at WrestleMania 40.
Fan speculation about a potential character shift has grown, with some voicing frustration over the perceived creative stagnation. However, the company remains firm in its approach for now.
Cody Rhodes is currently scheduled to face Jey Uso this Monday on WWE RAW in the King of the Ring Semifinals. If victorious, he will move on to face Randy Orton at Night of Champions next Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
