Conor McGregor Places Huge Bet on Lionel Messi at the Copa America

Having seen his UFC comeback clash with Michael Chandler postponed due to a toe injury, it seems that Conor McGregor has a great deal of time on his hands, and it appears much of that has seen the Irishman enjoy the Copa America finals. The competition is taking place in the United States, and McGregor has placed a number of bets in recent days.

The latest wager has seen him back Argentina to emerge victorious, with McGregor placing an astonishing $365,000 on that eventuality, a bet that, if successful, would see him win over $1 million.

Those who may want to turn their betting attention back to the UFC, or indeed even on McGregor himself, can find the best options out there when it comes to MMA betting, with the selection of the right provider being a key part of the winning formula.

While Argentina is the favorite to triumph in the competition, that doesn’t lessen McGregor’s risk given the size of his bet, albeit the superstar fighter clearly has the funds to make such a wager.

McGregor fans were hoping to see their hero in UFC action, but their hopes were dashed when his clash with Chandler was called off due to the injury suffered by the Dubliner. It’s now more than three years since his last fight, which ended in a second successive loss to Dustin Poirier, during which McGregor suffered a broken tibia.

Many hope a return is still on the cards, with lead UFC commentator Jon Anik claiming an imminent fight is not far away, stating;

“I’ve been waxing optimistic on Conor for a long time,”

“I fully expect him to compete in 2024, to come back at a high level. Fight twice in eight months. I know it sounds ridiculous and super ambitious to some people, but I just know the mixed martial arts athlete is in there, and I just remain hopeful that he’s going to come back and make more of an impact than anyone expects that he will.” Anik stated before adding,

“I messaged Conor after UFC 300, and I said, ‘Only thing bigger than 300 is McGregor vs. anybody,’”

“So the biggest thing we can do is have a Conor McGregor-led pay-per-view. That’s not our reality at (UFC 303), but this company obviously comes to the rescue and is able to present a deeper pay-per-view.”

Meanwhile, why we all wait with bated breath, McGregor keeps himself amused with various endeavours, including acting in the recent Jake Gyllenhaal film Road House. He also won a large sum by betting on Nate Diaz to beat Jorge Masvidal, discussing his bet prior to the fight;

“I’ve decided to put $500,000 on Diaz to win tonight’s boxing match,”

“Range, form, experience, solely hands being used, I can’t see Masvidal causing any problems to Nate in a boxing ring whatsoever.”

“They are both little play-around dipsh*ts in a fight, play-around bollox, but I feel Nate does him in EASY here for real. $500k gets me back $1,625,000 all in.” McGregor added.

Indeed, McGregor’s prediction proved correct, leading to a big financial payout as a result.
