WWE commentator Corey Graves appeared on the Mark Hoke Show to discuss various topics, including his commentary for AAA’s Noche de los Grandes from Italy.
Graves said, “At the end of the day, here’s the irony — I don’t think I’ve ever actually told anybody this publicly. I called that match live as it happened from Turin, Italy, because I was in Italy for a PLE, our Clash in Italy which was taking place the next morning. So we went live at 4 AM in Italy. In the middle of the night, I was in a conference room calling that match as it took place. And that to me speaks volumes as to how magical it truly was. Because here I am on the other side of the globe, literally, at four o’ clock in the morning; I barely know which way is up. And I got so captivated and so caught up in that matchup, that what those two did was absolute magic. And I think it will live on as one of the greatest lucha matches in history, as well as one of the most important moments and matches matches as it pertains to WWE’s partnership with AAA.”
On how he called it from Italy:
“I’ll tell you, it’s tricky. Because we do it — obviously, for logistical purposes I have the ability to call basically any show at any place on Earth at any given time. I’ve got a setup upstairs in my house. But again, I was on the road; We had Clash in Italy, which had already been booked for months. I was already booked for it and. And the mask vs. mask Noche de los Grandes event is happening. And somebody said to me, ‘How do you plan on doing this?’ So I made a few phone calls to our production team, which obviously is world-class, and they got me all set up. And again, it’s tricky. Because I call a lot of these lucha events remotely… so there is a lot of, ‘How should this feel? How would it feel if I were in the arena?’ And again, kudos to both Americanos. Because what played out, I didn’t have to pretend. I didn’t have to ask myself, ‘What would I be feeling in this moment?’ I felt it. And that is the highest compliment I can give for for someone.”
