Jim Ross’ contract with AEW is coming up soon.
The WWE Hall of Fame legend and AEW commentator confirmed the news on the latest installment of his “Grilling J.R.” podcast.
When talking about the subject, J.R. noted that he would like to remain on the team with AEW, but understands that it is not entirely up to him.
“Iโm 71 years old, I canโt do this forever. I feel like my work is pretty decent right now,” Ross said. “My voice is strong. I donโt want to sit at home. It takes two to tango. I donโt what expectations are of me in the AEW world. Iโve said it before, and Iโll stick with the same story because itโs true, itโs up to Tony Khan in large part, and Barry Bloom, who is my agent. Barry represents Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, Don Callis. He represents a lot of guys, which means to me that Barry has good communication with AEW. Whether we get a deal done or donโt get a deal done remains to be seen. If it works out, Iโm in and if it doesnโt work out, Iโm out. Itโs that simple. Iโm not being nonchalant or cavalier. Thatโs the reality. Iโve negotiated too many contracts to know how these things can or cannot work. Hopefully, itโll work out well. I want to stay there. Weโll have to wait and see.”
Ross continued, “Iโm not being flippant; I am serious about it, but I canโt wave a magic wand and say โhereโs my deal, hereโs what I would do.โ I havenโt made any demands at all. I like the challenge of building Collision into a good show, a watchable show. Itโs just a matter of getting all the ducks in order, I think itโll be a short negotiation. Iโm very signable in that regard. Weโll see. Iโm optimistic itโs going to work out okay, but if it doesnโt, youโll be seeing me more on the autograph circuit and things of that nature. Iโm just proud to be here.”
