WWE veteran and TLC pioneer Matt Hardy recently shared his thoughts on the critically acclaimed Triple Threat TLC Match on SmackDown, featuring The Street Profits vs. DIY vs. Motor City Machine Guns. Speaking on a recent episode of his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy—who, alongside his brother Jeff, helped define the TLC genre—was thoroughly impressed after watching the match for the first time.
“It was good. I thought it was really strong, psychologically done well. I’m a fan,” Hardy said.
“It had a ton of great action. I see why it received so much praise… It was exciting… great false finishes, incredible athleticism, and high-impact spots. Everyone took big bombs—it was creative, man. All done very well.”
Hardy also praised the match’s structure and storytelling, emphasizing that all three teams came out looking strong:
“They did a great job making all the performers stand out. Every team had their moment. Being in a match like that elevates everyone involved.”
Looking at the bigger picture, Hardy firmly believes the match would’ve been right at home on the grandest stage of them all:
“Yeah, I would’ve been super cool with this match being on WrestleMania. I almost don’t know why you don’t pull the trigger on a match like this. If they had that exact same match at WrestleMania, it elevates all three teams even more. It would’ve absolutely fit—it could’ve been a WrestleMania classic.”
In closing, Hardy placed the bout among the all-time great TLC matches and noted that fellow ECW legend Bubba Ray Dudley also gave it his seal of approval:
“It’s in the conversation of just a fantastic, extremely memorable TLC match. I saw Bubba putting it over, and if Bubba’s putting it over, it was solid. I think him and I view this stuff with a very similar mindset.”
