Oba Femi says he had no idea Brock Lesnar was going to return to the ring and publicly endorse him following their Hell in a Cell match at WWE SummerSlam.
Femi scored a career-defining victory over Lesnar during SummerSlam Saturday 2026, defeating “The Beast” inside Hell in a Cell. After the match, Lesnar returned to the ring and delivered a promo putting over Femi as the future of professional wrestling.
Speaking with ABC 33/40, Femi recalled initially believing the encounter was over when he watched Lesnar walk away. “I remember him. I see, you know, I see him on his wide back walking away. I’m like, ‘Wow, that was tough.’ And then I see him spin the block. I’m like, ‘Oh man, what’s going on? What do we have now?’ And then he walks back, and I’m on guard. I’m like, ‘Oh, it could be anything.’ And then he comes in, and it’s this big endorsement, very out of character for him, and it’s this huge moment. So, I’m happy that he trusted enough in his choice to even come back and, like, not just implicitly tell them through the match, but explicitly say, ‘This is our guy.’ [So, you didn’t see that coming at all, that post-match moment?] Not at all. No, nobody saw it coming. The camera guys, everybody was taken aback. Everybody was surprised that in the 25-year career of Brock Lesnar, he’s never done anything like that.”
Femi’s comments indicate that the post-match moment came as a genuine surprise not only to him, but also to members of WWE’s production crew at ringside.
For Femi, Lesnar returning after their match to explicitly identify him as WWE’s future made an already significant SummerSlam victory even more meaningful, particularly given how unusual such a public endorsement was for Lesnar.
