Rey Mysterio was apparently legitimately injured on this week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown.
As seen during the show, the WWE Hall of Fame legend lost via referee stoppage in his U.S. Title Invitational finals showdown against fellow LWO member Santos Escobar.
The match was stopped between commercial breaks after Santos hit a suicida on Mysterio on the floor and the back of Rey’s head slammed on the entrance ramp.
Fightful Select is reporting that the spot was not a part of the storyline and was a completely legitimate injury spot. Escobar was actually supposed to win the match clean, but an audible was called and the match.
Later in the show, Michael Cole and Wade Barrett promised to give an update on his condition, however that had to be nixed.
