WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam (RVD) recently appeared on his โ€œ1 Of A Kindโ€ podcast episode. He discussed several topics, including the criticism over his comments about the Jon Moxley spike spot.

RVD said, โ€œIf your perspective was that you think that I was bashing AEW, boom, youโ€™re wrong. Raise your hand if thatโ€™s what you think. Okay, now I didnโ€™t bash AEW, I wouldnโ€™t bash AEW and it seems to me by far, the worst part about AEW and I hope this quote gets picked up, is the fans on IWC. The fans are so ignorant. Iโ€™m gonna tell you what I did say, okay? My whole career, in ECW, even before that, the matches that Sabu taught me were โ€˜garbage matchesโ€™ which included all the weapons and gore and had wrestlers that didnโ€™t even have to know how to wrestle to be in the match, okay? Those have always been at the bottom of the list of my favorite matches. Thatโ€™s my opinion. If you donโ€™t think I have a right to say that because I was in ECW, not only does that not make any sense, but youโ€™re one of the idiots that needs to realize that thereโ€™s room to learn. So hereโ€™s the thing โ€“ those matches, especially the ones that have, like thumbtacks, glass, fire, fishhooks and when they have the competitors in there that donโ€™t do a single wrestling move, and they donโ€™t even have to know how to wrestle, quote: โ€˜To me, thatโ€™s not wrestling.โ€™ The more AEW does things like that, like the Jon Moxley spiked bat thing, and I think that theyโ€™re heading in that direction more, and I think WWE is heading into more like, old school WWE storytelling in the ring and less of letโ€™s stick a [needle] through someoneโ€™s cheek, burn their house down, go for shock value, the more that they seem to be two separate styles, which Iโ€™m fine with, the more I personally would rather have RVD, the wrestler associated with WWE. Now, if you heard that and you still feel like Iโ€™m bashing AEW, you need to check yourself. Youโ€™re way too defensive because Iโ€™m not even bashing that spot. I donโ€™t like that spot, but the people donโ€™t understand. The fans are so challenged that they hit me with things, you know, like, โ€˜Well, if you did that kind of stuff and youโ€™re saying you donโ€™t like it, youโ€™re a hypocrite.โ€™ Thatโ€™s not what a hypocrite is.โ€

On his current relationship with AEW President Tony Khan:

โ€œAnd by the way I didnโ€™t quit AEWโ€ฆ I had a single, standalone per match contract each time. In fact I did talk to Tony recently. We have a great relationship, We have a great relationship and the AEW fans that donโ€™t understand it, itโ€™s because youโ€™re dumb and you donโ€™t know how dumb you are. Youโ€™re the same people that didnโ€™t understand how I could come to AEW when I cleverly came up with that term, โ€˜All Petite Wrestlingโ€™. During that summer people were like, โ€˜Oh no, what? Heโ€™s going there? He shouldnโ€™t be allowed in! This blows my simple brain!โ€™โ€
