Trick Williams is leaving WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event with championship gold.
Williams defeated Baron Corbin to capture the WWE United States Championship during Sunday night’s special event at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The title opportunity came about following Lil Yachty’s Five-Minute Challenge against Corbin earlier in the show. Under the stipulation, Yachty only needed to survive the full five minutes for Williams to receive another opportunity at Corbin’s United States Championship.
Corbin controlled much of the challenge and connected with multiple End of Days, but repeatedly chose to inflict additional punishment rather than finish off Yachty as the clock continued to tick.
That decision ultimately cost him, as Yachty managed to survive until the five-minute time limit expired.
An enraged Corbin responded by chokeslamming Yachty through a table, only to immediately discover that his United States Championship defense against Williams was taking place next.
Williams wasted no time taking advantage of the situation, rushing to the ring and going directly after an already fatigued Corbin.
The championship match featured several close calls, including Corbin surviving a standing Book End and Williams kicking out following Deep Six.
Williams ultimately connected with the Trick Shot and secured the three-count to defeat Corbin and become the new WWE United States Champion.
The victory gives Williams championship gold following an assist from Yachty, whose successful Five-Minute Challenge forced Corbin into an immediate title defense.
