Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown featured a throwback to CM Punk’s legendary “Pipebomb” promo from 2011, used to promote his highly anticipated clash with Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena at Night of Champions next Saturday.
The highlight package showcased several memorable lines from Punk, including his jab at Cena for being skilled at “kissing ass.” However, WWE notably edited out Punk’s direct reference to Vince McMahon, who was originally the primary target of Punk’s verbal tirade.
It’s worth noting that McMahon is no longer affiliated with WWE, having departed in January 2024 following a lawsuit filed by Janel Grant alleging sexual assault, trafficking, and abuse. McMahon stepped down from both TKO Group Holdings and WWE the day after the lawsuit was filed. Legal proceedings remain ongoing.
