WWE NXT New Years Evil Review – January 2, 2024

Women’s Title Match
Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Blair Davenport

Match starts off with a lock up then they take turns locking one another in submission holds before Blair Davenport delivers a kick to Lyra Valkyria’s midsection.

Davenport ascends to the top rope and hits a double stomp to Valkyria’s spine then follows it up with a few kicks to her head and a neckbreaker then locks in a chinlock but Valkyria fights her way out of the hold with a jawbreaker.

She fires off several strikes and lands a crossbody then connects with an enzuigiri and ascends to the top. She looks to fly but Davenport rolls out of the way. Valkyria then delivers a suplex.

Davenport delivers a forearm and looks to land a kick but Valkyria catches it before she drags Davenport into the corner and ascends to the top rope as Davenport joins her up there and hits Falcon Arrow then looks to pin her.

Valkyria rolls out of the ring and Davenport follows her out there then tosses her into the barricade spine first then looks to land a knee on her jaw but Valkyria moves out of the way and Davenport’s knee is sent colliding with the announce table.

They get back inside the ring and Davenport looks for a double stomp off the top rope but her knee gives out opening the door for Valkyria to hit a spinning back heel kick follow by Phantom Driver to get the win.

Winner & Still Women’s Champion: Lyra Valkyria (8:26) (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)

After the match Lola Vice runs down to the ring with a referee and her Women’s Breakout Tournament contract in hand. Tatum Paxley appears out of nowhere to prevent her from cashing in with an attack. Elektra Lopez runs down to provide a hand to Valkyria & Valkyria takes her out.

We then head backstage to Kelly Kincaid & she announce that Ilja Dragunov is not medically cleared to defend his NXT Title match tonight.

6 Man Tag Team Match
No Catch Quarter Crew (Drew Gulak, Damon Kemp & Myles Borne) vs. Latino World Order (Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde & Carlito)

Drew Gulak & Cruz Del Toro lock up to get this match started as they take turns locking one another in submission holds before Del Toro delivers a hurricanrana and a crossbody off the middle rope.

Joaquin Wilde tags in and delivers a double back elbow with Del Toro then connects with an uppercut and a chop then Damon Kemp becomes legal and Wilde hits him with a dropkick off the ropes.

Myles Borne & Gulak blindside him leading to Carlito & Del Toro getting inside the ring.

LWO then dumps No Quarter Catch Crew out of the ring and Wilde goes flying with a splash to take them out. Wilde dumps Gulak back in the ring and ascends to the top rope.

He delivers a dropkick then follows it up with a right hand and a clothesline. Borne tags in and delivers a series of right hands to Wilde’s head then hits a kick on his spine.

Kemp tags in and delivers a neckbreaker then locks in an Ankle Lock and tags out to Borne. Borne delivers a stomp to Wilde’s spine and follows it up with a right hand.

Gulak tags in and delivers a bodyslam to Wilde before Kemp is tag back in and No Quarter Catch Crew triple teams on Wilde. Gulak tags in and delivers a right hand to Wilde’s head.

Kemp tags in and delivers a stomp to Wilde’s spine then locks in an Ankle Lock but Wilde manages to make the tag to Carlito & he takes down No Quarter Catch Crew then hits a double clothesline to Borne & Kemp.

He catches Gulak with a back body drop then levels Kemp with a spinebuster. Borne levels Wilde but Del Toro delivers a dropkick to him off the top rope. Kemp catches him with a bodyslam and Carlito delivers a back elbow to him.

Kemp rolls up Carlito but unbeknownst to him Del Toro has tagged in & Carlito hits a backstabber and a bodyslam and Del Toro follows it up with a Phoenix Splash for the win.

Winners: Latino World Order (8:30)

We then head backstage to Kelly Kincaid getting Trick Williams & Carmelo Hayes’ reaction to Ilja Dragunov not being medically cleared. Grayson Waller walks in and gets into a verbal exchange with Williams which leads to Hayes challenging Waller to a match with Waller on Williams’ behalf with the winner receiving Trick Williams’ NXT Title match with Ilja Dragunov.

There was a video package of Riley Osbourne where he promised to win the Breakout Tournament and become the next big European Superstar in WWE.

Roxanne Perez vs. Arianna Grace

Match starts off with a lock up then Arianna Grace offers her hand to Roxanne Perez and looks to shake it but Grace slaps her instead.

Perez then wears down Grace and rolls her up but Grace kicks out and catapults her into the ropes.

Grace whips her into the corner and delivers a suplex then follows it up with a boot to her midsection and whips her head into the mat.

Perez responds with a dropkick and an uppercut then fires off right hands on Grace in the corner then hits Pop Rox for the win.

After the match Grace gets in Perez’s face then Perez fires off right and left hands on Grace then locks in a crossface. The referee tells her to relinquish the hold but Perez keeps it cinched in. The referee then announces that he has reversed his decision as the result and Grace is the winner of the match.

Winner: Arianna Grace (5:09)

Backstage Ava revealed to Kelly Kincaid that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will begin next week.

Nikkita Lyons & Blair Davenport had an argument backstage before multiple producers & referees separated them.

Ranch Hand Or Servant For A Day Match
Tiffany Stratton vs. Fallon Henley

Fallon Henley throws her towel in Tiffany Stratton’s face then sends her face crashing into the top turnbuckle twice before Stratton pulls her out of the ring. Henley gets Stratton up on her shoulders but Stratton escapes.

Henley gets her back inside the ring and delivers a dropkick to her head but Stratton manages to send her crashing into the ring post and the ring apron as we go to a break.

After the break Stratton & Henley exchange strikes with one another before the action spills back out of the ring and Henley sends Stratton crashing into the barricade.

She gets her back in the ring and hits a crossbody off the top rope then follows it up with a Crucifix Bomb.

Stratton responds with a spinebuster and looks for Prettiest Moonsault Ever but Henley moves out of the way and sends Stratton crashing out of the ring.

Stratton dumps Henley back inside the ring and grabs a chair & looks to hit Henley with it but Henley prevents her from doing so and the referee grabs the chair from her.

This opens the door for Henley to hit Shining Wizard for the win.

Winner: Fallon Henley (9:02) (Since Stratton lost she must become a Ranch Hand for a day)

We then head backstage and see Baron Corbin propose to Bron Breakker an alliance between the 2 of them. Breakker denies doing so at first but eventually comes around to the idea after hearing out Corbin.

There was a video package promoting Oba Femi for his match against Riley Osbourne.

After the break we head backstage and see Cora Jade confront Gigi Dolin in the locker room for sitting in front of her cubby.

Sarah Schreiber asks Ridge Holland about his journey to get to where he is today and Holland says that he’s no stranger to injuries, mishaps and accidents in the ring. He reflects on his past leg injuries before Schreiber asks him about forming Brawling Brutes with Sheamus & Butch. Holland reflects on getting injured shortly after they formed the group and Schreiber then asks him about injuring NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov. Holland says he respects Dragunov immensely and he’s a father and a friend rather than a monster. He says he would never take away someone’s career because he knows what it feels like to have that happen then says he’s in NXT to show everyone who he is and prove himself.

Finals Of The 2023/2024 Breakout Tournament
Riley Osborne vs. Oba Femi

Oba Femi sits Riley Osborne on the top turnbuckle before Osborne then hits a kick to Femi before Femi looks to connect with an elbow drop.

Osborne moves out of the way and executes a chop block but Femi sends him crashing out of the ring and follows him out there.

Osborne looks to land a kick off the apron on Femi but Femi catches him with a chop as we go to a break.

After the break Femi has a Bear Hug cinched in on Osborne then hits a backbreaker to him and locks in the Bear Hug once again but Osborne fights his way out of the hold and lands a jawbreaker before he lands a chop.

Femi gets Osborne up on his shoulders but Osborne escapes and looks to roll Femi up but he prevents him from doing so and Osborne delivers a dropkick to Femi.

He follows it up with a standing corkscrew and a running uppercut in the corner then delivers a shoulder to Femi’s midsection and ascends to the top rope.

He looks for a 450 Splash but Femi moves out of the way. Osborne then delivers a single leg dropkick and looks for a Shooting Star Press off the top rope.

Femi gets his knees up and sends Osborne crashing into the mat then hits a powerbomb for the win.

We then head over to a message from OTM & they are calling their shot for The Family’s NXT Tag Team Titles.

Kiana James & Izzy Dame were interviewed backstage by Kelly Kincaid, where they promised to make 2024 their year.

Trick Williams scolded Carmelo Hayes for putting his title shot on the line. Williams asked Hayes to stay in the back for his match against Grayson Waller.

Thea Hail & Jacy Jayne spoke backstage before Andre Chase & Duke Hudson interrupted. Jayne scolded Chase for not handling Chase University. Jayne announced that she entered Duke Hudson & Riley Osbourne into the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Tatum Paxley & Lyra Valkyria had a segment backstage where Paxley said that as long as Valkyria was still Women’s Champion all was right in the world & this weirded out Valkyria.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer spoke backstage where they agreed to be a tag team for the Dusty Rhodes Classic. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade interrupted them and said that they were not a real tag team & that they were going to lose.

The Family cut a promo in the parking lot where Tony D’Angelo said that Andre Chase was not off the hook yet. Joe Gacy randomly pops out of the trunk of their car where Gacy told The Family that he dealt with the body.

Trick Williams’ NXT Title Shot
Trick Williams (h) vs. Grayson Waller

Grayson Waller clocks Trick Williams then fires off right hands and stomps on his midsection then follows it up with a suplex before Williams connects with 3 bodyslams and a dropkick then delivers a knee to his midsection and looks to land another strike.

Waller rolls out of the ring before he can and Williams follows him out there then hits an overhand chop and tosses him over the announce table.

They get back inside the ring and Waller delivers a boot that sends Williams crashing back out of the ring with a boot to his chest and a clothesline as we go to a break.

After the break Williams delivers a suplex to Waller then fires off a series of right hands but Waller delivers a stomp to the back of his neck and sends Williams crashing into the ring post shoulder first then locks in a single leg Boston Crab.

Williams makes his way over to the bottom rope to break the hold and hits an open palm strike to Waller.

He follows it up with several right hands and a flying clothesline then delivers a back elbow and a flapjack. Waller looks for a rolling Stunner but Williams catches him with a pop up uppercut and goes for a pin.

Waller kicks out and Williams fires off stomps on him before delivering a few right hands and a knee to his midsection before Waller responds with several knees of his own and they end up teetering on the ropes.

Williams lands a spinebuster on Waller and goes for a pin but Waller gets his foot on the bottom rope to break the fall then delivers a rolling flatliner and goes for a pin but Williams kicks out.

Waller then ascends to the top and looks to land an elbow drop but Williams rolls out of the way and connects with a neckbreaker as Carmelo Hayes runs down to ringside to cheer Williams on.

Williams asks Hayes what he’s doing after he told him not to come out to ringside earlier and Waller rolls to the outside.

Kevin Owens appears out of nowhere on the outside and delivers a right hand to Waller then tosses him back inside the ring where Williams hits a knee for the win.
