WWE NXT Review – January 9, 2024
Kicking off this week’s NXT with a video recapping the events from New Year’s Evil.
We see Blair Davenport & Nikkita Lyons brawling in the Performance Center parking lot. They eventually spill out to the ringside area and slide inside the ring.
Blair Davenport vs. Nikkita Lyons
Nikkita Lyons delivers a bodyslam to Davenport then follows it up with a suplex and a flying right hand but Davenport catches her with a back elbow.
Lyons responds with a kick to Davenport but Davenport sends her crashing into the ring post shoulder first and delivers a double stomp to her on the outside from the apron.
She gets her back into the ring then ascends to the top rope and hits a 2nd one.
Davenport locks in a submission hold on Lyons but Lyons escapes with a suplex.
She follows it up with a pair of kicks and a series of right hands to Davenport’s midsection then hits a German suplex and a fallaway slam.
Lyons then clotheslines Davenport out of the ring and follows her out before looking to land a spinning kick on her.
Davenport moves out of the way and Lyons’ leg is sent crashing into the ring post.
They get back in the ring with Davenport delivering a chop block to Lyon’s knee as she gets back in. She follows it up with Kamigoye for the win.
Winner: Blair Davenport
There was a video package narrated by Cody Rhodes ahead of the start of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
After the break we head backstage to Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams talking. Hayes tells Williams that he has some good news for him and says it’s his responsibility to see Williams succeed because he asked for his help. He says while he & Williams wait for NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov to return from injury, he secured them the final spot in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Williams says he’s not sure about participating given that he wants to stay ready for Dragunov but Hayes convinces him to compete and Williams agrees.
Quarter Final Match Of The 2024 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
Baron Corbin & Bron Breakker vs. Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang)
Bron Breakker & Mark Coffey lock up to get this match started then Wolfgang tags in and catches Breakker in a side headlock but Breakker escapes and sends Wolfgang crashing into the mat.
Baron Corbin tags in and delivers a running clothesline to Wolfgang in the corner but Wolfgang manages to tag out to Coffey & hits a shoulder tackle off the middle rope then follows it up with an uppercut.
Wolfgang tags back in and sends Corbin crashing into the top rope before leveling an interfering Breakker as we go to a break.
After the break Corbin fires off forearms on Coffey in the corner then hits a flying clothesline off the middle rope and goes for a pin but Wolfgang breaks the fall.
Corbin levels Wolfgang with a spinebuster then walks into a clothesline from Coffey.
Corbin responds with a Deep Six and exchanges strikes with Coffey as Breakker does the same with Wolfgang.
Breakker clotheslines Wolfgang out of the ring and Corbin delivers a Death Valley Driver to Coffey in the center of the ring. Wolfgang pulls Coffey to the outside and Corbin slides out to join them.
Corbin looks to attack Wolfgang but Wolfgang moves out of the way and Corbin’s arm is sent crashing into the ring post.
Coffey sends Corbin’s arm bouncing off the announce desk and the ring apron then pulls him back into the ring and delivers a stomp to him.
Wolfgang tags in and whips Corbin into the corner then delivers a running splash then Coffey & Breakker tag in and Breakker levels both him & Wolfgang.
He tosses Mark over to Wolfgang and delivers a German suplex to both men then looks to land a Spear on Coffey but Corbin tags himself in before he can.
He delivers one to Wolfgang & Corbin hits Coffey with End Of Days for the win.
Winners: Baron Corbin & Bron Breakker
We then head over to a video of Tiffany Stratton arriving at Fallon Henley’s family farm to serve as a ranch hand.
Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria says following her successful defense against the Women’s Title last week she’s confident she’ll walk out of 2024 still holding the title. She says that her next #1 Contender will be determined in a 20 Woman Battle Royal with the match being turned into a Fatal 4 Way once there are only 4 women left and the winner receiving their title match at Vengeance Day.
Lola Vice & Elektra Lopez interrupt Valkyria and Vice reminds Valkyria that she still has her Women’s Breakout Tournament Contract. Valkyria asks Vice what’s happened to her and says all she sees her do is talk. She makes it clear that she wants to fight and says everyone can agree that they want to see her defend her Women’s Title against Vice.
Vice & Valkyria exchange jabs and Valkyria questions why Vice isn’t planning on using her Breakout Tournament to cash in for a Women’s Tag Team Titles match. Valkyria challenges Vice to a title match and a referee shows up on the ramp but Lopez clocks her before that can happen. Vice & Lopez over Valkyria but Tatum Paxley runs down to even the odds.
We then head backstage and see Josh Briggs get into a heated confrontation with Meta 4.
After Luca Crusifino complained about losing in the Breakout Tournament Ava was met by North American Champion Dragon Lee before being interrupted by Lexis King. King challenged Lee to a match for the North American Title which Lee accepted by saying this in Spanish: I will take that clown face off you.
Josh Briggs vs. Oro Mensah
Both men waste no time going after one another before Josh Briggs delivers a bodyslam to Oro Mensah and delivers a right hand to his spine then delivers a running splash to him in the corner.
Mensah delivers a jumping knee but Briggs fires back with a slam before Lash Legend pulls Mensah out of the ring but Briggs chases him back into the ring.
Mensah delivers a right hand to the back of Briggs’ neck and follows it up with a chop but Briggs fires back with a forearm.
Mensah delivers several stomps to Briggs in the corner then delivers a boot to him off the top rope then looks to hit a kick but Briggs catches it and sends him crashing into the mat.
He looks to charge at him but Jakara Jackson distracts the referee. Heritage Cup Champion Noam Dar interferes and Mensah tries to take advantage by charging at him.
Briggs ducks out of the way and Mensah is sent crashing into the bottom turnbuckle then follows it up with a clothesline for the win.
Winner: Josh Briggs
After the break we head over to the 2nd part of a video showing Tiffany Stratton’s experience working as a ranch hand on Fallon Henley’s family farm.
NXT Tag Team Titles Match
The Family (Tony D’Angelo & Stacks) (c) vs. OTM (Lucien Price & Bronco Nima)
Stacks & Bronco Nima lock up to get this match started then Tony D’Angelo tags in and fires off right hands on Nima & looks to hit a shoulder tackle to Nima but Nima stays on his feet.
Stacks & Lucien Price tag in and Price sends Stacks crashing into the corner spine first.
Stacks connects with a dropkick on Price then tags D’Angelo back in & The Family double team on Price before Stacks tags back in and fires off a right hand on Price.
Nima tags in and gets Stacks in an electric chair position as he brawls with Price on the apron. Price then goes flying off the apron to level Stacks as we go to a break.
After the break Nima wears down Stacks in the center of the ring. Price becomes legal and sends Stacks to the outside on top of Nima’s shoulders.
Stacks sends Nima crashing into the ring post then gets back inside and tags in D’Angelo.
D’Angelo hits a belly 2 belly suplex to Price then levels an interfering Nima and delivers a spinebuster to Price. Stacks tags in and delivers an uppercut as D’Angelo hits a German suplex.
Nima levels Stacks with a stomp, opening the door for Price to deliver a kick to D’Angelo.
Nima tags in and OTM plant D’Angelo with a fallaway slam/neckbreaker combination. Price tags back in and wears down D’Angelo.
Stacks clotheslines Nima to the outside and dumps Price out to join him.
D’Angelo helps Stacks to fly and level OTM and Stacks tosses Price over to D’Angelo in the ring.
The Family then delivers the Bada Boom, Bada Bing to Price & D’Angelo pins him.
Nima pushes Stacks on top of them to break the fall before OTM & The Family begin brawling with one another in the center of the ring.
Scrypts looks to fly while the referee is distracted but Adriana Rizzo sends him crashing into Price. Stacks levels Nima on the outside and D’Angelo hits a suplex to Price for the win.
Winners & Still NXT Tag Team Champions: The Family (STILL CHAMPIONS!!!)
We then see a video posted to the NXT Anonymous account of Jacy Jayne telling Thea Hail and other Chase U students that she has a plan to save the school.
Oba Femi was interviewed by Kelly Kincaid backstage after he won the Breakout Tournament last week but he was interrupted by Lexis King. King told Femi that he was lucky he did not make it to the final but promised to get gold of his own in the main event. Femi was intrigued.
As Gallus threw a tantrum after their loss tonight Joe Coffey calls out Ridge Holland as he was walking around the back. Coffey told Holland he was not afraid and challenged him to a match later.
Gigi Dolan vs. Cora Jade
Match starts off with a lock up then Gigi Dolin delivers a kick to Cora Jade’s head then looks to land a dropkick.
Jade moves out of the way and delivers a stomp to Dolin’s spine then jams her boot into her jaw into the corner and gets in her face.
Dolin responds with a series of right hands but Jade sends her crashing into the middle rope and delivers a step up knee.
Dolin lands a series of strikes and a clothesline then hits a dropkick and sets up for a Crucifix Bomb.
Jade grabs onto the official to prevent her from hitting it and hits a DDT for the win.
Winner: Cora Jade
OTM walks into the Parking Lot before being confronted by Jaida Parker. Parker offered her services to them to take care of The Rizz. Scrypts told her they would talk business.
Quarter Final Match Of The 2024 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
Hank Walker & Tank Ledger vs. Nathan Frazer & Axiom
Match starts off with Hank Walker & Axiom lock up then Axiom hits a dropkick and tags in Nathan Frazer. Walker sends him crashing into the corner and tags in Tank Ledger.
Ledger & Walker deliver a double splash to Frazer before Axiom & Walker tag back in. Walker sends Axiom crashing into the mat and delivers a body slam.
Ledger & Frazer tag back in, and Frazer sends Ledger crashing into the top turnbuckle face first. Walker tags back in and Ledger plants Frazer with a back suplex.
Frazer sends Walker crashing out of the ring and tags Axiom back in.
Axiom goes flying to level Walker before Frazer does the same to level Ledger.
Axiom & Walker then slide back in the ring and Walker hits a clothesline to Axiom.
He rocks him with a knee then tags Frazer back in & hits a Phoenix Splash for the win.
Winners: Nathan Frazer & Axiom (They will face Corbin & Breakker in the Semi Finals)
We then head over to the 3rd part of a video showing Tiffany Stratton’s experience working as a ranch hand on Fallon Henley’s family farm.
Edris Enofé & Malik Blade spoke backstage ahead of them facing Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams but they were interrupted by Brinley Reece offering a workout program for them.
North American Title Match
Dragon Lee (c) vs. Lexis King
Match starts off with a lock up then they take turns locking one another in submission holds before Lexis King delivers a shoulder tackle.
Lee responds with a dropkick and ascends to the middle rope but King dropkicks him to the outside and joins him.
Trey Bearhill appears at ringside opening the door for Lee to go flying to take King out before King then whips him into the barricade spine first as we go to a break.
After the break King hits a clothesline to Lee before Lee responds with a series of strikes and a clothesline of his own then follows it up with a hurricanrana and a boot to his face from the apron.
He then lands a dropkick before the two exchange chops with one another. King lands a kick but Lee responds with a knee to King’s jaw.
King hits Michinoku Driver and locks in a single leg Boston Crab but Lee makes his way over to the bottom rope to break the hold.
Lee delivers a kick to King’s jaw and plants him with Operation Dragon for the win.
Winner & Still North American Champion: Dragon Lee (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)
After the match Oba Femi marches down to ringside to cash in his Breakout Tournament Contract.
North American Title Match
Dragon Lee (c) vs. Oba Femi
Femi is cashing his Breakout Tournament Contract.
Dragon Lee hits him with a tope suicida on the outside then tosses him back in the ring.
The bell rings and Oba Femi tosses Lee across the ring then charges at him but Lee catches him with a kick and a Tornado DDT. Femi plants him with a powerbomb for the win.
Winner & New North American Champion: Oba Femi (NEW CHAMPION!!!!)
