WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather has shed new light on the real-life dynamic between two of the most talked-about backstage factions of the 1990s — the Bone Street Krew (BSK) and The Kliq — and confirmed a long-standing rumor involving a bar altercation in Canada.
Appearing on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, The Godfather (real name Charles Wright) addressed the perception that there was tension between the two groups, which respectively included names like The Undertaker, Yokozuna, and Rikishi on one side, and Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and Triple H on the other.
“We weren’t political. We were just… everybody was watching everybody’s back,” The Godfather said of BSK. Asked how they co-existed with The Kliq and their notorious political influence, he responded bluntly: “Nobody f— with us, man… We were friends with them. We had no animosity with nobody… Politically, they didn’t affect anything that we did.”
One long-rumored story that The Godfather finally confirmed involved BSK backing up The Kliq during a bar incident in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
“There was a bar that we used to go to… We showed up and saw that The Kliq was getting ready to get their ass [kicked]. Thing about BSK — we weren’t looking to fight, but if we had to fight, we’d be ready… So we just happened to show up, and of course, we backed them up. Said, ‘Hey, let’s get this party started.’ And they decided they didn’t [want to fight].”
The moment has lived in wrestling lore for years, and The Godfather’s confirmation adds more credence to the idea that despite being very different backstage factions, BSK and The Kliq shared mutual respect.
The Godfather also offered insight into the BSK lineup, confirming what many fans have speculated over the years.
“It started off Yoko [Yokozuna] being basically the leader of the group. It was Yoko, Taker, me, Rikishi, The Godwinns, Savio Vega, Paul Bearer, Mr. Fuji, and Crush.”
The group became known for their bond and for playing dominoes backstage — the source of the “Bone Street” name — while The Kliq’s influence often extended to creative decisions and locker room politics.
Though their approaches were different, both groups left an undeniable legacy in WWE history. And now, thanks to The Godfather, another chapter in that history has been confirmed as fact.
