Actor and former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette recently participated in an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, where he discussed the possibility of making a sequel to the 2000 wrestling comedy Ready to Rumble.
When asked which of his movies he would most like to see receive a sequel, Arquette immediately picked Ready to Rumble and suggested that WWE becoming involved could give the project significant potential. “I think if I was to make any sequel it would be READY TO RUMBLE. There is such a huge love of wrestling and that film and there would be so much especially if WWE was involved.”
Arquette also used the opportunity to express interest in appearing for AEW, noting that he already has several friends working for the promotion. “On a side note, I would love to do something on AEW. So many of my friends work there and I have unfinished business with Jeff Jarrett and would love to work with Jack Perry and sadly RJ City, not to mention Dalton Castle!”
Arquette reiterated that he would like to make a Ready to Rumble sequel but acknowledged that the original film’s financial performance makes getting another movie produced difficult. “I wish we would make a sequel to Ready To Rumble. It’s difficult because if as film doesn’t make a lot of money when it first comes out, its hard to drum up the interest for a sequel.”
However, Arquette hasn’t completely given up on the idea and jokingly encouraged wrestling fans to campaign for Warner Bros. to revisit the property. “But someone could always start a campaign and write Warner Brothers!”
Ready to Rumble was released in 2000 and starred Arquette alongside Scott Caan and Oliver Platt. The film featured numerous WCW personalities and was released during Arquette’s controversial involvement with the promotion, which ultimately included him winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
Arquette later returned to professional wrestling years after WCW closed and competed extensively on the independent scene.
