Rey Mysterio has revealed another family-related goal he hopes to accomplish before bringing his legendary in-ring career to an end.
The WWE Hall of Famer has previously spoken about wanting his son, Dominik Mysterio, to eventually retire him. Now that his daughter Aalyah is training for a potential wrestling career, Rey has another dream — sharing the ring with both of his children.
Speaking with The Sun, Mysterio explained how Aalyah’s recent training has opened the door to a possibility he hadn’t previously anticipated.
“I have my daughter training, I mean, that’s, that’s like a different thing for me. I would really love to be able to try and share the ring with both. Why not?” Mysterio said.
For Rey, the opportunity would potentially create another unique chapter in his family’s wrestling history.
“I don’t think it’s ever been done in history, so to be able to share the ring with my daughter and my son, it would be something. It’s a personal hope or dream of mine.”
Mysterio is also open to revisiting his rivalry with Dominik. The father and son previously feuded after Dominik turned against Rey, but Mysterio believes their real-life relationship means WWE can return to the story whenever the timing is right.
He compared that potential to classic movie franchises that appeared to reach their conclusions before eventually producing another chapter.
“I think going back with Dom, you know, you’ve seen Rocky, Rocky 2, Rocky 3, and you know, maybe you thought that was the ending? And then all of a sudden you get another Rocky. Or the Terminator, whatever it is,” Mysterio said. “Those movies that are legendary and are classics; to this day, you can enjoy. I think that can always happen with Dom and myself.”
According to Mysterio, their father-son dynamic gives WWE a storyline that can be reopened naturally even after extended periods apart.
“Maybe we thought that was a finale or an ending, but the story is always there. It’s very accessible to knock back on that door and reopen that,” he said.
Mysterio also reiterated that the idea of Dominik eventually retiring him dates back to the beginning of his son’s wrestling career. What Rey didn’t anticipate was how quickly Dominik would develop into an established WWE star.
“So, I mean, yeah, that was my original thought [Dom retiring him] from the moment my son stepped in. It just it happened so fast,” Mysterio said. “His growth happened so fast that I didn’t think it was gonna come within 2-3 years after him breaking into the business. It’s crazy.”
Aalyah’s training now adds another possibility to the closing stages of Mysterio’s career. While there is no indication that a match involving all three members of the family is currently planned, sharing a WWE ring with both Dominik and Aalyah has become one of Rey’s personal goals before he eventually retires.
