Tyson Dupont has opened up about his WWE departure, revealing that while he anticipated being released, he was surprised by the timing because he had undergone hip surgery just weeks earlier.
Dupont announced on April 1 that he was undergoing surgery on his hip. WWE subsequently released him on April 24, bringing his run with the company to an end while he was still recovering.
During an appearance on Developmentally Speaking with Bryan Asbury, Dupont was asked whether receiving the call from WWE came as a surprise. “To be completely honest, no,” Dupont said. “I knew it was coming just because we hadn’t been on TV for 10 months prior to that, so usually that is a telling sign. I was surprised because I literally just had hip surgery on April 1.”
Although Dupont believed his lack of television appearances was an indication that his time with WWE could be nearing its end, he hadn’t expected the company to release him during his recovery. “I didn’t think they would release me while I was hurt but I had a feeling it was coming,” he continued. “I thought I had a little more time, but even with that, I wasn’t upset. I was just thankful.”
Dupont also expressed appreciation for WWE covering his surgery and continuing to take care of his medical expenses even after his release. “I was able to get the surgery. They have taken care of my medical expenses, even after being released, so I was thankful for that,” he said. “I just wanted to get healthy again. I wasn’t even upset. When I got the call, I was more thankful. Thankful that it happened and for the opportunity.”
Rather than dwelling on the end of his WWE run, Dupont said he viewed his departure as part of the natural progression of the business and an opportunity for another wrestler to pursue their own ambitions with the company. “Nothing lasts forever. We can chase our goals and dreams all we want, but when it’s time, it’s time,” he said. “It was time to make room for someone else to have the opportunity to live their dream and that’s something I’m okay with.”
Dupont’s comments make clear that despite being caught off guard by the timing of his release, he remains grateful for his WWE opportunity and has primarily focused on getting healthy following surgery.
