AEW Star Drops Last Name

After nearly six months away from television, Stokely Hathaway made his return to AEW on the April 24th episode of Dynamite, stepping into the role of manager for FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler).

According to Fightful Select, this pairing had been in the works for some time and wasn’t a sudden creative decision. The idea of Hathaway managing FTR was reportedly pitched as far back as last year. Before his hiatus, Hathaway was seen scouting various tag teams, with subtle teases — including background shots of him watching FTR matches during vignettes.

However, plans shifted temporarily when The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) gained unexpected crowd momentum, leading FTR into a storyline involving the rising tag team instead.

Now, the original vision of Hathaway aligning with FTR has officially come to fruition. Additionally, AEW’s official roster page has been updated, with Hathaway now listed simply as “Stokely,” dropping his last name.
