Could Katie Taylor follow compatriot Becky Lynch into the WWE ring after retirement?

Katie Taylor is without question the most famous women’s boxer in the world but after years of unprecedented domination in the ring, her star could finally be waning. At 37 years old, Taylor doesn’t have any margin for error left after losing the first fight of her career in May against Chantelle Cameron.

It’s now or never for one of the boxing greats

Now, as their rematch draws closer, the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been for Taylor who might have to carefully consider retirement in the event of defeat.

Ominously for the Irish boxer, the latest Chantelle Cameron vs Katie Taylor betting odds for their second clash indicate that the curtain may fall on her career after being priced at 7/5 to win.

Meanwhile, Cameron has been priced in the most recent boxing odds at just 4/7 to make it back-to-back victories over Taylor.

With the odds strongly suggesting that a Taylor defeat during the rematch might be on the cards followed by a retirement announcement, could this ultimately lead to the 37-year-old ending up in the WWE ring as she embarks on her second act? Perhaps if we go back to April 2022 then we may get a better answer.

Lynch and Taylor work together to promote the biggest fight in women’s boxing

During the build-up to Taylor’s fight on April 30th, 2022 at Madison Square Garden when the Irish star’s clash with Amanda Serrano was the headline event, the WWE’s Becky Lynch lent her support to Taylor by marketing the match to her millions of wrestling followers.

What first started out as an interview between the pair to increase exposure in the lead-up to the bout soon developed into a close friendship.

So much so that Lynch attended the weigh-in before the undisputed lightweight title match against Serrano and even took on the role of mistress of ceremonies as she introduced Taylor to the crowd.

Lynch’s role in Taylor’s corner over the weekend in New York was invaluable and gave the bout a level of exposure it may not have otherwise received. Subsequently, it was later described as the biggest women’s boxing match of all time and also voted Fight of the Year by multiple sporting publications.

Essentially, the two Irish athletes had successfully captured the attention of the watching world by working together. Given how triumphant their collaboration was in marketing women’s boxing, could the two team up in the WWE in years to come?

The duo’s global appeal speaks for itself and their road to the top of women’s combat sports has been eerily similar with both Taylor and Lynch learning their trade on Bray’s east coast of Ireland at the same time. In many respects, this is a match made in heaven and one waiting to be pounced on by the powers that be of the WWE.

Could the Irish dream team end up in the WWE?

With more and more boxers and MMA athletes making the crossover to professional wrestling, Taylor’s transition to the WWE has the potential to be the most seamless of them all. Indeed, with the groundwork already laid and a strong friendship with one of the WWE’s biggest stars who also happens to be a close compatriot, the making of an unstoppable Irish tag team is there.
