WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, who is also All Elite Wrestlingโs Director of Business Development, took to an episode of his โMy World with Jeff Jarrettโ podcast, where he talked about a number of topics including Dixie Carterโs power play that led to his first TNA departure.
Jarrett said, โDixie knew the Kurt-Karen relationship. The marriage had long been over way before this when it became โ you know, when me and Karen started dating, Dixie maneuvered herself, and Iโve said it multiple times on the podcast. She took this opportunity to do her power play.โ
On how his TNA TV return in 2009 came about:
โWe had the Hulk meeting, and โHey, Jeff, weโre just kind of trying to work through things.โ And she would try to throw heat on the attorneys, and, โWe just donโt know.โ And she tried to throw heat on Kurt. Kurt didnโt give two shits about itโฆ that relationship was long over. It was what it was, move on down the road. And so she kind of gave me the runaround on different answers, but I didnโt ask. Because at that time I was like, โOkay, hereโs โ Iโm still the single largest shareholder of of the organization. Weโre going to come to some kind of either agreement or separation. Letโs just kind of play this out.โ And one afternoon, one night, I get a call from Vince Russo. โBro, whatโs up?โ โHey, Vince. Whatโs going on?โ โHey, this is kind of what weโre thinking.โ โOkay. โWell, weโve got Hulk and Eric in, and at this timeโโฆ I asked Vince and heโs like, โHey, man, we want to bring you back creatively as a talent.โ And Iโm like, โOkay, do you know any other things?โ And he goes, โMy understanding, the lawyerโs going to call you and kind of deliver you.โ So Iโll jump into that real quick. A lawyer eventually called and said, โYouโre going to start back in January. Hereโs what we want you to focus on: live events and international. We think you can be โ you know, help the company out the most there.โ I said, โI actually agree with you. Because I kind of see the writing on the wall. And youโre going to have Russo in there, youโre going to have Hulk in there.โ Before even Eric was a part of it, I knew Eric was basically working for Hulk. And then of course Dixie โ you could just see all of the pieces of the puzzle moving downโฆ So Iโm gonna work on international and live events. And it was really odd that the way Russo teed it up. โHey, man, this is โ we want to bring you back under this and the new regime, andโฆโ โOkay.โ At this point, I wasnโt told about the six-sided ring. I wasnโt told about just the positioning or anything. It was, โHey, we want to bring you back.โ And thatโs when it was, โHey, manโโ and again, I think we joked about this. I think Iโd gone a couple of days without shaving. And, โWe want you to have a look that youโre kind of โ you know, just disheveled and not really engaged in work at all.โ Iโm like, โOkay.โ I said, โVince, I donโt grow a very good beard, but Iโll do my best.โโ
On not doing a straight series of matches with Kurt Angle when he returned:
โDixie was afraid of itโฆ Dixie despised Karen, that simple. For real. Vince Russo, when he called me the first night, โBro, the money is Jeff, Kurt and Karen.โ I canโt do the accent. โOkay. Where are we going to go with this?โ โWell, bro, we gotta get you back in here first.’โ
