Joe Hendry Reveals How TNA Encouraged Him To Perform A Concert After The Rock

TNA World Champion Joe Hendry appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show to discuss various topics, including how the company asked him to do a concert right after WWE legend The Rock did one during the build to Wrestlemania 40.

Hendry said, โ€œI did this concert, I remember TNA management came to me and said, โ€˜We want you to do this concert.โ€™ I said, โ€˜Guys, The Rock just did one. He just did one. Heโ€™s The Rock.โ€™ How can I do something to make it totally different? They said to me, โ€˜Weโ€™re not going to make you do it, if youโ€™re saying you donโ€™t want to do it, then you donโ€™t have to do it, but we think that you can.โ€™ We went back and forth. We ended up coming up with an idea that we would do a Creed song and instead of โ€˜Can you take me higher,โ€™ we would say, โ€˜Can you please get fired,โ€™ to AJ Francis. That was funny enough and different enough that we could do it. We did this concert and it went so well. Weโ€™re in this iconic music venue in Vegas so it looked great, the audience was laughing along. We had the perfect segment at the same time [my theme] was released and was charting. Those two things together collided and thatโ€™s when it started to take off.โ€
