TBS Champion Mercedes Mone is riding high in AEW, and as she prepares for one of the biggest matches of her career, the former Sasha Banks is reflecting on the bold decision that transformed her life.
In the latest edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, Mone opened up about walking away from WWE and how the move ultimately allowed her to rediscover her true passion—professional wrestling.
“Growing up, WWE was everything to me. I never imagined my life without it,” Mone wrote. “But over time, I’ve come to realize that it’s not WWE I can’t live without; it’s pro wrestling itself.”
Mone famously exited WWE in May 2022 and debuted with New Japan Pro-Wrestling in early 2023, where she made headlines by winning the IWGP Women’s Championship. In March 2024, she shocked the wrestling world again by debuting in AEW, where she quickly became a cornerstone of the company’s women’s division.
Since arriving, Mone has claimed the TBS Championship and won the 2025 Women’s Owen Hart Cup, further solidifying her position as one of the top stars in AEW.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t feel grateful for that decision,” Mone added. “It pushed me to new heights, matured me into a strong-willed CEO, and empowered me to take control of my life and future. I’m especially thankful for all my fans who have stood by me throughout this journey.”
Now, Mone’s journey continues toward a massive showdown at AEW All In on July 12, where she will challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship in a match that has the wrestling world buzzing.
