WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion and member of The Judgment Day, Raquel Rodriguez, spoke with 3NEWS in Corpus Christi, Texas, about various topics, including her connection to Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling.
Rodriguez said, “I would say that’s my wrestling family, the Galvans. When my dad was training, we would go train with him there. They became like my uncles and a grandfather to me.”
On her dad’s initial concerns about her getting into the wrestling business:
“It was really hard for him to let me be a part of the business in the beginning just because it was such a different time for women.”
On wanting to be a role model for young women from the area:
“I just wanted to be some kind of beacon or a door opener for the rest of the females from the Valley who felt boxed in,” Rodriguez said. “I just want kids to know that if they have big dreams, they can reach them… I just hope that I inspire someone today.”
On what winning the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title means to her:
“This means so much to me. This is hard work. This is blood. This is sweat, and this is tears, years of just sacrifice.”
On wanting to win the Women’s World Title:
“I would love to be Raquel Two Belts at some point too. Definitely holding that Women’s World Championship, that would make my career.”
