During Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, General Manager Adam Pearce announced that Seth Rollins will face “The Ring General,” GUNTHER, at WrestleMania 42.
This announcement followed a sudden appearance by GUNTHER during a segment with Rollins and WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman, where GUNTHER put the former World Heavyweight Champion to sleep with a Sleeper Hold.
With the confirmation of Rollins versus GUNTHER for WrestleMania 42, many speculated that Bron Breakker had not yet been medically cleared to return to the ring, prompting the company to change its plans.
However, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, the decision to book Rollins against GUNTHER was a creative choice by the company and was not related to Breakker’s medical condition. Meltzer indicated that even though Breakker is now fully cleared to compete, WWE chose not to match him against Rollins in Las Vegas because the creative team wants to allow for “proper television build time” for that storyline. He also mentioned that the recent storyline involving Rollins and Heyman was always intended to lead to a match between Rollins and GUNTHER.
Breakker turned on Rollins last October, and the original plan appeared to be for the two to face each other at WrestleMania 42. However, Breakker suffered a serious hernia injury in early February and underwent surgery. GUNTHER was initially slated to face WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 42, but an injury to the legendary luchador during the go-home episode of RAW ahead of the 2026 Royal Rumble seemingly halted those plans.
