Former WWE Superstar Sonya Deville has provided a candid update on her future, confirming that while she is “retired for now” from professional wrestling, the door remains open for a potential return—particularly in the world of MMA.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Deville reflected on her departure from WWE and the emotional ties that still connect her to the company where she spent a decade of her life.
“Definitely for now. Never say never,” Deville said when asked if she’s retired from wrestling. “But right now I feel at peace with that. I’m not gonna lie—and I haven’t said this—but it almost is like an open wound.”
Deville continued, “If I think about wrestling somewhere else… I was so loyal to the company. It was my only home from 21 years old to 31. I’m a ride-or-die type of person in general. So it’s weird to even think about doing that—but not there.”
She also opened up about the terrifying 2020 home invasion that changed her life forever.
Deville, who was released from her WWE contract earlier this year, made it clear that her focus has now shifted back to her first passion: acting. However, her background in mixed martial arts, which initially led her to WWE via Tough Enough, still holds a powerful allure.
“My first dream was to be an actress… Acting feels more true to what I want in this very moment,” she said. “But I do think Bare Knuckle [Fighting] is badass, so yeah, I can’t say never.
She added, “I have a really great relationship with Invicta and Shannon Knapp, the owner. Being around the girls again and in that atmosphere gives me some crazy nostalgia.”
“I will say that—yeah, I am training…”
When asked if she’s currently training, Deville confirmed she’s back in the gym. “I will be training while I’m out here. I will say that—yeah, I am training.”
Deville’s Future
Now a free agent, Sonya Deville is staying busy with multiple ventures. Beyond her acting and combat sports interests, she also co-owns a Los Angeles-based donut shop called The Cages.
Deville last competed in WWE in 2023 before a knee injury sidelined her. Her blend of charisma, athleticism, and real-life toughness has made her a standout figure in both wrestling and MMA circles.
