Tony Schiavone doesn’t envision himself retiring.

On the latest episode of his “What Happened When” podcast, the AEW commentator was asked what he would want the end of his legendary pro wrestling career to look like.

“I would say, โ€˜Hi everybody, welcome to another episode of [makes croaking sound],'” Schiavone said. “Yeah [when Thompson asked if he would die in the seat.] That doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m gonna be 80 when I do it. I donโ€™t think Iโ€™m slowing down. I just donโ€™t think Iโ€™m slowing down. Iโ€™m really honored that Tony would allow me to do play-by-play again at this stage in my life. Right now, Iโ€™m 66. I turned 66 on November 7th. I still gotโ€ฆrealistically, I think Iโ€™ve got one more contract in me, if Tony will go with that, and then weโ€™ll see what happens.”

Schiavone continued, “I just donโ€™t envision myself retiring. Thatโ€™s why, when we started doing [AEW Collision], and this is before Tony put me on the broadcast team, Tony told me, he said, โ€˜Weโ€™re gonna start doing a Saturday show.โ€™ He said, โ€˜You donโ€™t have to come.โ€™ He said, โ€˜Weโ€™re can have two different crews. Iโ€™m the only one whoโ€™s gotta come.โ€™ I said, โ€˜Tony, Iโ€™m going to be here every day for you. Iโ€™ll be here on Wednesdays, and Iโ€™ll be here on Saturdays.โ€™ Itโ€™s a case of just being away two nights out of the week. He said, โ€˜Okay.โ€™ But then I got to thinking, itโ€™s like, if Iโ€™m not doing it, what am I gonna do? Just sit at home and do nothing? Thatโ€™s not me at all.”
