Triple H says athletic ability and determination matter when WWE evaluates prospective talent, but there is one quality the company values above everything else: charisma.
During an interview with KHON2 News, the WWE Chief Content Officer was asked what the company looks for when assessing potential recruits.
Triple H explained that while WWE’s tryout process tests candidates physically, the ultimate goal is to discover people capable of commanding attention and connecting with an audience.
“The obvious things: the athleticism, the desire, that drive. But the biggest thing is charisma. In our business, careers are made. It’s king, you know? So if you have that ability to be larger than life, if you’ve always felt like you have something more to offer than the average person, and people gravitate toward you, we’re looking at somebody that can captivate crowds. We’re looking for somebody that is not your traditional next-door neighbor, you know? Somebody that’s larger than life.
So the athletic ability, all that stuff is important. Obviously, when we do this trial, we’re going to test them, and we’re going to exhaust them, and we’re going to do all the things you would expect us to do. But the reality of it is we’re looking for charisma, but we’re looking for the person that can captivate a crowd.
And if you can do that, WWE just might be the home for you.”
Triple H’s comments come ahead of WWE’s upcoming two-day talent tryout in Hawaii in October.
WWE will visit the state for two live events at the Blaisdell Arena on October 16 and 17, with the company also using the trip to scout prospective recruits.
Shawn Michaels recently expressed his own excitement about the tryout, particularly WWE’s opportunity to discover new talent from Hawaii and the wider Pacific Islands.
For Triple H, however, regardless of an athlete’s background or physical ability, the defining question is whether they possess the charisma necessary to captivate a WWE audience.
