TNA Wrestling star Zoey Serrano spoke with Ring the Belle about several topics, including being informed that she would be working with WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus in the company.
Serrano said, “I can’t remember if it was a text message or a phone call. But either way, I was told, ‘Hey, you are now officially on the Saudi trip.’ This is the same week that they’re going to Saudi. So, they’re like, ‘We need you to pack. You got to cover everything up.’ So, that’s why I’m wearing the leather jacket and everything else. ‘Cover all the way up and if you happen to have gear, bring it.’ I was like, ‘Well, I don’t have long gear. I’ll try and get it made as soon as possible.’ Luckily, my gear maker did come through and help me out with that. And then I get on the plane and Trish just comes over. She’s like, ‘Do you know what’s happening?’ I’m like, ‘No, no. Not a clue. Would you like to fill me in?’ So, she tells me all about it and I’m just like, almost dumbfounded. Because I couldn’t believe, like this is someone that I grew up watching. You know what I mean? She had the main event match with Lita and at that moment, it woke a lot of girls up of like, ‘Oh, I can be taken seriously as a female wrestler.’”
On working with Stratus and Becky Lynch:
“So being able to work alongside her and Becky Lynch — to me, who is really the pinnacle of what we do, and staying strong to who she is. And this might look like I’m throwing jabs, but not using her sexuality to get to that next level. She stayed true to herself, and she got there through hard work. That’s what I love. So being able to work alongside those two and learn from them is the biggest dream come true. And I’m using everything that they taught me on the indies now, and let’s see where it takes me.”
