Chris Jericho Recalls Nearly Ending Up As The Goon In WWE

Top AEW star Chris Jericho recently took part in a Q&A panel hosted by Monopoly Events. During the session, he covered a range of topics, including a pitch he received from Jim Cornette during his early days in WWE, before he moved on to WCW. Jericho believes the pitch was for a character called The Goon.

Jericho said, โ€œI got a call from Jim Cornette who was then working in WWE. And he said, โ€˜Weโ€™re starting off this group of guys, theyโ€™re jobbers but they all have a gimmick. So theyโ€™re not really going to win much but theyโ€™ll have a gimmick.โ€™ And [I] kind of sold it like, โ€˜Yeah I donโ€™t really want to be a jobber. Iโ€™ve got other stuff going on, Iโ€™m working in Japan and and all these other things.โ€™ And so he was like, โ€˜So should I put you down with an asterisk?โ€™ I was like โ€˜No, put me down with a no. Iโ€™m not interested.’ And this is when they had The Goon, if you remember this. And Salvatore Sincerely, and they had The Pug. They had TL Hopper, who was a plumber. And The Goon, Iโ€™m convinced was supposed to be me.โ€
