Drew McIntyre has confirmed that he’s currently working through an injury, stemming from a dangerous spot at WWE’s recent Backlash Premium Live Event. The Scottish Warrior revealed his condition in a new interview with Jay Reddick of the Orlando Sentinel.

The injury occurred during the Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Championship, which was ultimately won by Jacob Fatu. McIntyre and Damian Priest brawled into the crowd during the match, where Priest delivered a vicious South of Heaven chokeslam off a platform. The move didn’t go as planned — McIntyre missed the table and reportedly hit his head on the floor.

“I can’t turn my head all the way left yet…” McIntyre admitted, confirming the physical toll the spot took on him.

Despite the setback, McIntyre remains active on WWE programming and is set to face Damian Priest inside a steel cage at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Reflecting on the harsh realities of in-ring competition, McIntyre acknowledged that working hurt is part of the business — especially as a veteran.

“Working hurt is just what happens if you’re an athlete, especially as the years go by,” he said. “If you’re injured, it is something to take care of. Maybe back in the day, we would have taped it up and gone with it.”

McIntyre noted that he’s wrestled with muscle tears and broken bones in the past, but emphasized that WWE’s modern approach prioritizes long-term health.

“In the past, I have worked with muscle tears and breaks, which isn’t the most sensible thing. But the way we operate now, you want to last for the long run.”

While McIntyre is clearly not at 100%, he’s pushing forward with intensity and determination as he enters another brutal showdown with Priest — this time inside steel walls.
