Randy Orton made a statement loud and clear during the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show: if he wins the King of the Ring tournament, his next target is none other than John Cena—and he’s coming for the WWE Championship.
With the tournament finals looming, Orton was asked who he’d rather face at SummerSlam for the title: current WWE Champion John Cena or top contender CM Punk. While The Viper acknowledged he and Punk still have unfinished business, his eyes are locked on Cena—and the grudge runs deep.
“I gotta get in the ring with Punk at some point before it’s said and done. That’s a fact,” Orton admitted. “But I promised the WWE Universe I was going to remove John Cena’s head from his shoulders—and that’s exactly what I intend to do.”
Orton’s disdain for Cena stems from personal and professional heat, which boiled over after their controversial encounter at Backlash in Orton’s hometown of St. Louis—a match Orton believes he had won until interference changed the outcome.
“Cena said he was going to ruin wrestling. He talked sh*t about my family—you don’t do that,” Orton continued. “So the answer is John Cena. I wanna kick John Cena’s a**. I owe him one. I had him beat in St. Louis until somebody came out and saved the day. But make no mistake—Cena deserves an a**-whooping from yours truly.”
As Orton closes in on a possible King of the Ring victory, all roads may soon lead to a blockbuster SummerSlam clash with John Cena—one built on years of animosity, betrayal, and legacy.
