WWE Womenโs United States Champion Zelina Vega has ambitious plans for her championship reign, including a dream match at the highly anticipated Evolution 2 premium live event and a groundbreaking cross-promotional title defense. In a recent interview with WrestleStar, Vega named Asuka as her ideal opponent for the all-womenโs show.
โAsuka,โ Vega said without hesitation. โIโve always said that. I love Asuka so muchโฆ besides the fact that sheโs my friend, I mean, Iโm just one of her biggest supporters. I freaking love Asuka. And I think, like, male or female, sheโs one of the best, and it feels like better every time I get into the ring with her. So definitely, definitely, Asuka.โ
In addition to Evolution 2, Vega expressed a strong interest in taking her U.S. title beyond WWEโs borders for a one-off special appearance. She was asked about the idea of a return to TNA Wrestling, where she previously competed as Rosita from 2011 to 2013. Vega responded enthusiastically to the idea, even suggesting sheโd bring her current WWE title with her.
โI am [open to a one-off return],โ Vega explained. โI think, my gosh, it would even be really dope to do it with the United States Championship. I mean, you know, I think thatโd be super cool. And itโs never been done before. My God, for the longest time, it was like, if youโre in TNA, if youโre in WWE, thatโs it โ no crossover. But now, thereโs this influx of talent from AAA, TNA โ everywhere. Itโs just so cool that we get to have these matches. A lot of the time, people thought, โOh, weโll never see that kind of a match.โ But now itโs like the skyโs the limit.โ
Vegaโs vision for the U.S. Title includes elevating its prestige and turning it into a true โworkhorseโ belt, with hopes of defending it on an international scale. โI would love to be the person that takes this title and defends it in AAA, defends it in TNA, and really makes it mean something. Thatโs my dream for this title,โ she revealed.
Looking beyond her current run, Vega also has her eyes set on bigger milestones, including winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and eventually becoming world champion. โIโve never won Money in the Bank, and Iโve always wanted to. I would love to be world champion. Because if anybody says they got into this and donโt want to be world champion, theyโre lying.โ
