WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is steadily making his way back to the ring and has set his sights on a return before the end of summer. The legendary luchador has been sidelined since suffering a torn groin during the final SmackDown episode prior to WrestleMania 41, an injury that forced him out of his highly anticipated bout against El Grande Americano. Rey Fenix ultimately stepped in as a last-minute replacement.
Appearing on the LA PLATICA podcast, Mysterio opened up about the moment the injury occurredโand how surprisingly simple it was.
โI was explaining to someone yesterday that I tore my groin,โ Mysterio said. โHe asked, โHow did it happen? Was it when they pulled you?โ I said, โNoโฆโ The guy I was wrestling bailed under the bottom rope, and when I went to chase him and pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a rip. Thatโs it. Thatโs how I tore my groin. It usually happens on the simplest sh*t.โ
In addition to the groin injury, Mysterio revealed that he underwent surgery to repair a busted eardrum during his time off. Heโs since begun physical therapy and is aiming to be back inside the squared circle by August, a timeline that aligns with his advertised appearances for WWEโs live events in Mexico this July.
โGood. Pretty good,โ Mysterio said of his recovery progress. โI started my PT. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well, so I fixed that during my time off. Iโm on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.โ
With WWEโs summer schedule heating up and the company returning to international touring, Mysterioโs return would undoubtedly be a major boostโespecially in front of his home crowd in Mexico.
