WWE SUMMERSLAM NIGHT 1 COUNTDOWN RESULTS

The usual “WWE Then. Now. Forever. Together.” opening signature narrated by Paul “Triple H” Levesque gets things started as always. We then shoot to the pre-show area outside of MetLife Stadium, where the three-man hosting panel of Michael Cole, Big E. and Wade Barrett welcome us to ‘Countdown to WWE SummerSlam.’

After the initial back-and-forth banter between the pre-show panelists, Cole begins to introduce the rest of the broadcast team working the show. We check in with Jackie Redmond and Peter Rosenberg inside the empty MetLife Stadium.

They talk about the CM Punk vs. Gunther main event and then send things over to the duo of Cathy Kelley and Byron Saxton, who are in the parking area to talk about the opening match for night one, which features “OTC1” Roman Reigns and “Main Event” Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker and “Big” Bronson Reed with Paul Heyman.

From there, we head over to another area backstage where the duo of Sam Roberts and Megan Morant discuss the scheduled WWE Women’s Championship showdown between reigning champion Tiffany Stratton and the 2025 WWE Queen of the Ring Jade Cargill.

When they wrap up, they send things back to the primary pre-show panel. Cole, Big E. and Barrett talk among themselves about the WWE World Heavyweight Championship contest between “The Ring General” Gunther and “The Best in the World” CM Punk.

Things are sent backstage again, where Byron Saxton is standing by for a live interview with Tiffany Stratton. The WWE Women’s Champion vows to make Jade Cargill just another name scratched off her growing list of conquered challengers.

Cole and the gang pick things up from there back at the main pre-show panel area for some more banter and analysis about some of the matches scheduled for night one later this evening. Sam Roberts is backstage live with WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez.

The Judgment Day duo talk about their scheduled title defense at “The Biggest Party of the Summer” this weekend. A video package airs featuring excerpts from Jelly Roll on “What’s Your Story with Steph McMahon.” After that, a graphic flashes on the screen announcing Stephanie McMahon for later in the pre-show.

From there, we return to the panel where we see Michael Cole and Wade Barrett have tagged out, as they prepare to head to ringside for the call of night one of WWE SummerSlam 2025. Tagging in for them on the pre-show panel alongside Big E. are Jackie Redmond and Peter Rosenberg.

After some obligatory banter and unfunny back-and-forth quips, the trio sends things to another video package. This time we get an extended one-on-one sit-down interview in an empty arena in the middle of the ring, as Redmond talks to Jelly Roll about living his dream in music and WWE.

The interview stops half-way through, with a clip airing to promote part two of their sit-down discussion airing later in the pre-show. Back live to the panel, we see a special guest joining Redmond, Rosenberg and Big E. It is none other than Druski, and he’s fired up.

A couple of video packages and commercial breaks later, we check in with Byron Saxton in a sea of fans for a WWE Superstar Impression contest. The winners got their seats for tonight’s show upgraded. After this, we head to Joe Tessitore, who interviews Paul “Triple H” Levesque live from Gorilla position.

We move on to the charity segment of the pre-show. WWE named Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation & Tackle Kids Cancer, Nourish NJ, Meadowlands EMS Scholarship Fund and New City Kids as this 2025 SummerSlam Community Champions. They appear with the panelists on the pre-show.

Following this was a special live backstage interview with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. Joe Tessitore talks to the boss-man from the Gorilla position behind the curtain about tonight’s big event and the recent WWE: UNREAL on Netflix series.

Part two of Jackie Redmond’s in-depth one-on-one sit-down interview airs after that. We also check in with Cathy Kelley again inside the stadium, which is quickly filling up with what is expected to be a crowd of 65,000 fans. She talks about the celebrities who have wrestled in WWE over the years, and a video package airs.

Back to the panel, we hear some pre-match thoughts and analysis from the trio of Rosenberg, Redmond and Big E., before the trio send things to Cathy Kelley, who is backstage for a quick live interview with Sami Zayn. Zayn questions what he’s fighting for on such a big stage tonight.

Now we head to a special small podium set up way up high inside MetLife Stadium. The Jelly Roll sit-down interview has wrapped up, and now we see Jackie Redmond and Big E. standing with Stephanie McMahon. They talk about the Jelly Roll sit-down interview that just finished.

Then, they air a sneak peek of Jelly Roll on “What’s Your Story with Steph McMahon.” Once the preview clip wraps up, we return to Redmond, Big E. and Stephanie at the pre-show podium area, as the three talk about Stephanie’s new podcast and Jelly Roll’s WWE in-ring debut tonight.

We learn Jelly Roll weighs 299 lbs. right now. The interview wraps up, and we take a quick commercial break. We then check back in with Joe Tessitore on the floor inside MetLife Stadium. As he talks directly into the camera, we see Alisha Taylor, Michael Cole and Wade Barrett making their entrances in the background.

WWE SUMMERSLAM RESULTS (NIGHT 1): August 2, 2025

The ‘Countdown to WWE SummerSlam: Night 1’ pre-show wraps up after Jackie Redmond, Big E. and Peter Rosenberg close things out and head off the air. Back inside MetLife Stadium, New Jersey’s own Breland is introduced to sing “God Bless America” live on the entrance stage.

Cardi B. Opens Up The Main Show

The cold open video package featuring Druski then airs to get the premium live event portion of the show officially off-and-running. It wraps up and the sounds of Cardi B.’s song “Outside,” the official theme for WWE SummerSlam 2025, plays. Inside the stadium, Alicia Taylor introduces the WWE SummerSlam host.

Another Cardi B. song plays and then the world-famous female rapper makes her way out in an extravagant outfit to a good reaction from the enormous crowd packed inside MetLife Stadium. She makes the long walk to the ring. She asks if there are any Logan Paul fans in the house. “How about Randy Orton?”

“OTC1” Roman Reigns & “Main Event” Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & “Big” Bronson Reed

Pyro airs to wrap up the brief Cardi B. in-ring opening promo segment, and then we quickly shift gears and get ready for our opening contest. Michael Cole and Wade Barrett check in from ringside on commentary, as the theme for “Main Event” Jey Uso hits.

He makes his “YEET”-tastic ring entrance as the 65,000+ WWE fans inside MetLife Stadium sing along and do the “YEET!” wave. He settles inside the squared circle and then the familiar sounds of Roman Reigns’ entrance tune hits. “OTC1” makes his way out, taking his time.

With the first team settled in the ring, the theme for their opponents hits, and out comes Bron Breakker and “Big” Bronson Reed led by “The Oracle” Paul Heyman. Reed still has Reigns’ sneakers, and is wearing them around his neck for his ring walk.

All four guys collide and a big four-man brawl gets going to kick off the in-ring physicality for the evening. Reigns and Uso ultimately get the better of the brawl, knocking Breakker and Reed out to the floor. Uso calls for an encore, and his theme hits for the second time as he plays to the crowd.

From there, things settle down and the match gets underway. Reigns starts off for his team, and dominates the early action. Uso tags in, and from there, we see Breakker and Reed take over and settle into a prolonged run in the offensive lead, taking turns tagging and keeping a fresh guy on Uso at all times.

After several more minutes of back-and-forth action, finally Reigns and Uso came to life and took out the Paul Heyman-led duo of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed after Reigns sacrificed himself in favor of the team, leading to the finish.

The finish sees “Main Event” Jey Uso connecting with a spear and a top-rope Uso Splash for the pinfall victory. Paul Heyman retreats up the ramp wearing the “Shoe-la-fala” looking scared. Back in the ring, Reigns recovers and then he and Uso celebrate.

After their respective ring entrances, the bell sounds to get things officially off-and-running. Tiffy screams “what time is it” before the two engage. They start the pace slow. Tiffy extends a hand to shake and Cargill jump kicks her in the face, covering for two.

The action spills outside early on. Cargill rolls in and out of the ring, as appropriate, to break the ref’s count. Finally Cargill takes it inside and taunts the crowd with a flex. Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre vs. Jelly Roll & Randy Orton

In between matches, we see a number of celebrities in brief cameo appearances in the front row. Among those shown are Stephanie McMahon, Cardi B., Druski and others. Nick Hogan is shown as well after another Hulk Hogan tribute package airs, showing “The Hulkster’s” impact on SummerSlam.

The pre-match video package then airs to set the stage for another featured match here at night one of WWE SummerSlam 2025. When it wraps up, the theme for Logan Paul hits and out comes the humble man himself. He settles in the ring and Drew McIntyre makes his way out.

From there, McIntyre’s music fades down. The familiar sounds of international music star Jelly Roll hits the house speakers inside MetLife Stadium. Out he comes with a microphone in-hand. He says he’d like to take a moment to pledge allegiance to the “Apex Predator” tonight.

Jelly Roll then sings a quick acapella version of Randy Orton’s fan-favorite “Voices” entrance tune, which then transitions into the song itself being cued. Orton emerges and “The Viper” walks side-by-side with Jelly Roll to the ring for a big tag-team tilt at “The Biggest Party of the Summer.”

Logan Paul blasts Jelly Roll with a cheap shot to get things started. This leads to Orton chasing after him until the ref stops him. After some discussion, it looks like Orton and Paul are starting things off for their respective teams. Jelly Roll insists to be tagged in, still hot from Logan’s cheap shot.

Orton concedes and the crowd cheers for Jelly Roll. Roll & Logan spend time jawing. Logan kicks Roll in the mid-section and things get underway for real. Paul with a scoop slam on Roll; Roll with one of his own. Roll covers for two. Drew McIntyre tags in.

Orton finally fires Roll up, and Roll marches up to McIntyre, coming face-to-chest with Drew. Then, suddenly, Jelly seems to regret this. Drew yells “this is the day the music dies,” only for Roll to slap him. Roll with a series of Dusty Rhodes-style jabs, briefly stunning “The Scottish Psychopath.”

Just as Jelly Roll seemed to be handling things much easier than he anticipated, we see McIntyre quickly shut that down with a Glasgow Kiss headbutt that drops the music star. Drew begins to work Roll over on the ropes while taunting Orton.

McIntyre with chest slaps on Roll in the corner. McIntyre with a big right that drops Roll to the mat. Drew begins to work Roll’s arm, yelling at Orton “I hear voices and they said you’re screwed!” Logan and McIntyre continue to control the offensive action for several more minutes.

The action spills out to the floor, where Logan Paul hits a splash on Jelly Roll that puts him through the commentary desk at ringside. Several officials rush out to check on the motionless music star as his wife looks concerned watching from the crowd.

We see a stretcher rushed down to the ringside area. Instead, several officials help Jelly Roll up and they begin assisting him in walking to the back, as the crowd cheers knowing he is essentially okay. Orton is left alone to be beat down by Paul and McIntyre.

Jelly Roll sees this and ends up stopping and turning around. He gets back to the ring and hops on the ring apron, where Orton immediately tags him in. Jelly Roll goes to work on Logan, eventually hitting a big chokeslam. Orton goes to follow up, but moments later, we see Paul take out Jelly Roll and pin him for the win.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk

It’s main event time!

But first, the commentary duo of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett run down the scheduled lineup for night two of WWE SummerSlam 2025 tomorrow night. From there, we settle into the elaborate pre-match video package for our final match of the evening, which features the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at stake.

We see the events that led to the night one main event between “The Ring General” Gunther and “The Best in the World” CM Punk, and then we settle back inside MetLife Stadium, where it’s time for the final pair of ring walks of the evening.

The familiar sounds of “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour hits and out comes “The Second City Saint.” CM Punk makes his entrance on the massive stage inside MetLife Stadium, wearing a special white and light-blue wind-breaker-type jacket with four stars on it. It’s an homage to Hulk Hogan’s colors in the No Holds Barred movie.

After CM Punk kneels down and combs the non-existent sand at the top of the entrance stage, he proclaims that it is, in fact, “clobbering time,” before beginning his long walk down the super-sized entrance ramp. He enters the ring as the crowd noise grows, and then drops down for his trademark cross-legged seated pose.

A super tight, close-up camera shot shows the unbelievably intense-looking eyes of “1 bill Phil” as his music fades down and he awaits the arrival of his opponent. With that said, the Imperium entrance tune plays and Gunther makes his way to the ring for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship defense.

Alicia Taylor handles the final formal pre-match ring introductions for the champion and the challenger, and then the bell sounds to get the main event of night one of WWE SummerSlam 2025 officially off-and-running. Punk and Gunther get things underway from there.

A loud “CM Punk! CM Punk!” chant breaks out throughout the stadium as Punk and Gunther begin circling each other. After several long moments, both men lockup in a test of strength. Gunther pushes Punk back into the corner; Punk with a standing switch, putting the champ in the corner. The ref forces a break.

Gunther adjusts his hair as Punk puts up his dukes and the two kill more time before locking up. We’re reminded that Gunther has roughly four losses in the last five years, to emphasize how rare of an occasion it is when it does actually happen. Gunther takes a lengthy stretch of time in control, all but brutalizing Punk.

We see Gunther chopping Punk’s chest and his hamstring over and over again. Gunther continues grinding away at Punk, working over his shoulder area now. Punk tries to rally, but a huge chop from Gunther stops him dead in his tracks, allowing “The Ring General” to continue his domination.

The pace picks up as both men begin laying into each other. Punk tries to show signs of life, and nearly connects with a GTS. Gunther, however, weathers in and unloads with more brutal strikes and chops to Punk. Gunther chops Punk over the top rope to the outside. Gunther resumes slowing the pace and taunting Punk.

Once again we see “The Ring General” unload on “The Best in the World” with powerful chops, completely battering him throughout the majority of this contest so far. And in a physically punishing and draining type of way, too. Punk again begins to show signs of life, firing off chops and kicks of his own.

One massive chop from Gunther puts an end to that real fast. He follows up by blasting elbow strikes on a prone Punk as he berates him, yelling “Who’s the kid now? Call me kid again! Call me kid again! You’ll never be world champion! You’ll never be the best!”

Punk powers to a vertical base. Punk looks for a GTS but Gunther escapes. Punk looks for a Sharpshooter but Gunther kicks him off. Gunther with a scoop slam on Punk, taking control again. Gunther grabs Punks legs and slaps on a Sharpshooter of his own.

Gunther looks for a leg submission but Punk counters it into a Figure-four, then eventually transitions from there into a Sharpshooter. This time Punk gets the Sharpshooter fully locked in. He begins cranking back on it, however Gunther grabs the rope to force the break.

The action spills out to the floor, with Gunther still in a commanding offensive lead. This continues until he takes a hard bump on the commentary desk. when he reemerges from under the desk, his favor is a complete-and-total crimson mask. Just a bloody, bloody mess.

In the ring, the action resumes, with Punk recovered and fired up. Gunther is holding his nose as Michael Cole questions if he further injured his already injured nose just now. Gunther doesn’t seem to want to continue. Eventually he does, avoiding a GTS and slapping a sleeper-hold on Punk.

Punk begins to fade, and Gunther squeezes away. “The Best in the World’ eventually escapes and then gets back to his feet, where he takes over. Punk hits a GTS, but Gunther doesn’t go down. Punk takes a deep breath and hoists the big man up for another GTS, this time dropping Gunther. He quickly covers him and gets the win.

Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: CM Punk

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Seth Rollins

It’s main event time — part deux!

CM Punk gets super emotional, visibly crying his eyes out as he drops to the mat and clutches his newly won WWE World Heavyweight Championship as the crowd goes ballistic in support of “The Best in the World.”

But then it happened.

Breaking up the love fest is the familiar sounds of “Burn it down!” Out comes Seth Rollins on crutches with “The Oracle” Paul Heyman by his side. He stops at the top of the stage. He turns around and crutches himself to the back.

Seconds later, Rollins reemerges without the assistance of crutches. He is walking just fine and smiling to let everyone know it was a rouse all along. Rollins begins his walk down the long ramp. He enters the ring and he and Punk immediately trade shots.

Rollins blasts Punk with the Money In The Bank briefcase twice. He cashes it in. The bell sounds. Rollins hits a Stomp and covers Punk. 1-2-3. We have a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion in what Michael Cole is calling “The Rouse of the Century.” That’s how night one of WWE SummerSlam 2025 wraps up. Thanks for joining us!
