American Gladiators Reboot Sparks Backstage Tension Between WWE & AEW Talent

Amazon Prime Video is bringing American Gladiators back in a major way, and the revival has strong ties to the world of professional wrestling.

WWE’s The Miz has been tapped as the host of the rebooted competition series, while the new cast of Gladiators features an impressive lineup of pro wrestling talent. Among the confirmed names are AEW’s Wardlow and Kamille, former WWE star Rick Boogs, and current TNA star Jessie Godderz.

While the star-studded crossover is generating buzz, it may also be stirring controversy behind the scenes. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are already reported “issues from one side” related to the inter-promotional involvement—specifically WWE’s The Miz sharing the spotlight with AEW talents.

It remains unclear whether the tension is coming from WWE or AEW, but the report suggests that officials from both companies are “keeping an eye on” the situation. The rumored friction reportedly caught the show’s producers off guard, as they may not have fully considered the implications of cross-promotional talent sharing a production.

Despite the potential behind-the-scenes tension, filming for the reboot is still scheduled to proceed this summer. Tapings are set to begin in June and July 2025 in Paris, France.

The revamped American Gladiators is expected to debut on Amazon Prime’s FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) channels sometime in late 2025 or 2026.
