There appeared to be a significant injury on WWE Friday Night SmackDown.

Carmelo Hayes appeared on the show in a backstage segment alongside Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. The segment resulted in a match being scheduled for later in the show.

Hayes wrestled Theory, and the referee abruptly stopped the match after a Spanish Fly move off the top that appeared to hit both men’s heads and/or necks hard on the ring mat. When the referee noticed this, he called an immediate stop to the match. Referees are instructed to end the match if they notice that a wrestler has sustained an injury, such as a neck injury or concussion.

WWE later stated, “UPDATE: Following their match tonight on #SmackDown, @_Theory1 and @Carmelo_WWE were evaluated for injuries. They both suffered face contusions, and will both be okay.”
