Liv Morgan’s recent shoulder injury, which will require surgery and force her out of action for up to six months, has reportedly caused a massive shakeup behind the scenes in WWE. According to a new report from Cory Hays of BodySlam.net, Morgan had been positioned at the center of several key storylines through the summer, all of which have now been scrapped or drastically altered.
One of the major plans derailed by Morgan’s injury was a Women’s World Championship match against IYO SKY at the upcoming Night of Champions premium live event. WWE had reportedly penciled Morgan into a featured title bout, continuing her rise as one of the most spotlighted stars in the women’s division.
Another highly anticipated program affected is the return of Evolution, WWE’s all-women’s premium live event. Morgan was scheduled to take on WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella, with the match originally intended as a singles clash. However, depending on whether Brie Bella came to terms with the company, the plan could have evolved into a tag team bout featuring Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez against The Bella Twins. Morgan’s injury has put those plans on hold and may have permanently shelved the reunion bout fans were hoping to see.
Additionally, there were creative directions building within The Judgment Day storyline that would have led to a mixed tag team match featuring Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio taking on Roxanne Perez and Finn Bálor. This crossover would have brought together main roster and NXT talent in a fresh intergender feud, showcasing Morgan’s versatility in different narrative roles across brands.
With Morgan now sidelined following a separated shoulder suffered during the June 16 episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE has pivoted quickly. Roxanne Perez is expected to step up in her place, not only filling the void left alongside Raquel Rodriguez but also being crowned WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion upon her official call-up to the main roster.
The loss of Morgan has forced WWE to abandon multiple major storylines, but the company is working to adapt swiftly as the summer unfolds. For now, the focus remains on Morgan’s recovery, and the WWE Universe continues to wish her a healthy and speedy return to action.
