Despite WWE informing fans in advance, many were surprised when the company delayed the airing of its WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event until the following Wednesday, after it had been taped the previous Saturday. WWE Hall of Famer JBL even mentioned on his podcast that commentators were not brought in live due to a change in plans, despite his prior agreement to participate. He also suggested that he anticipated they would provide commentary during post-production, after the event was recorded.
In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp reported that the commentary was recorded on Monday or Tuesday, adding that the company had known since August that the event would not be broadcast live.
The tragic death of PAC was an unforeseen event, which resulted in AEW holding a tribute show on the Wednesday of that week. This development unexpectedly positioned Worlds Collide as competition for a memorial honoring a beloved athlete—something WWE apparently did not consider. Additionally, since the Worlds Collide event was not live and spoilers were already available, it lacked the typical must-see urgency associated with major supercards. Furthermore, YouTube allows viewers to watch it at any time.
In the WWE x AEW Worlds Collide event, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, and El Grande Americano defeated JD McDonagh, Omos, and Dominik Mysterio. Additionally, Mini Vikingo triumphed over Axiom, EK Prosper, and Je’Von Evans to win the #1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match for a shot at the AAA World Cruiserweight Title.
