Top indie star Zilla Fatu made his WWE debut on Tuesday during NXT by attacking Cruz Montana and Grayson Waller in their match for the WWE NXT Championship #1 Contender’s spot. After the attack, he declared his intention to pursue the title himself.
Montana later spoke with Complex Graps about various topics, including Fatu’s surprising debut attack on him.
Montana said, “I’m the type of person now that I try not to react too much off of emotion, right? So, I try to give myself a little bit of time to process things, and to make sure I don’t spaz out like I usually do. But you know, I went back to my hotel and like I guess process everything and cool things down. Like you said, I had it in the bag. That #1 contendership was mine. When I first stepped through the doors of NXT, I made a statement and I made my intentions loud and clear, right? And last night, Zilla just did the same thing. And I got to give props where they do. The only unfortunate thing for him is now he made it personal and now we going to have to handle business. That’s just the way it is.”
On being familiar with the situation:
“One thing I know about myself is that I thrive in these kind of situations. If you’ve been following my career over the last two, three years, I’ve been put in spots like this countless times. And I always come out on the other side clean. And this is just one of those opportunities for me to grow from, for me to learn from. And if there’s one thing that I know — and there’s one thing that everybody else knows — is that when I’m pissed off, let’s get it. So, I’m looking at it as this is another part of the process. another part of getting to where I need to get to. And like anything in my life, anything in my career, nothing was ever handed to me. I’ve fought for everything that I’ve got. And now coming here to the WWE, this is the top of the world. Nothing’s different. I’m going to keep fighting for everything that I’m going to get. So we here.”
