Goldberg Calls Final Match Against GUNTHER An “Honor”

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg has officially confirmed that his upcoming match against World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER will be the final bout of his legendary career — and he’s calling it an honor to go out on the grand stage against one of WWE’s most dominant current champions.

Appearing on the Dan Sileo Show, Goldberg discussed the emotional and professional significance of stepping into the ring one last time at 58 years old, and doing so in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia at the Saturday Night’s Main Event television special on July 12.

“I remember meeting him years ago right when he broke in and the guy had a shooting star up his ass at that point and I knew he was gonna be destined for big things,” Goldberg said of GUNTHER. “And hey, it’s an honor for me to get in the ring with him. It’s an honor to step into a position to be vying for the World Heavyweight Championship at 58 years old. I don’t know of any other ones who’ve retired with a match like that.”

Goldberg made his return to WWE television on the June 16 episode of RAW, confronting GUNTHER and issuing a challenge for one last match — a challenge the champion accepted in a move that has stunned the WWE Universe.

The bout marks Goldberg’s first match since 2022 and his first-ever shot at the World Heavyweight Championship currently held by GUNTHER. It will take place in the city where his pro wrestling career began, making for a fitting bookend to an explosive legacy.
