Matt Hardy wanted to do his Broken Matt Hardy character in WWE.

During a recent episode of his podcast, “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” the pro wrestling legend and AEW star reflected on talking with Triple H about doing the persona in WWE, but Vince McMahon ultimately deciding against it.

“I remember talking to Triple H and he said โ€˜Maybe we could do a good Hardy Boyz run, kind of a throwback to the original WWE Hardy Boyz and then maybe we get into the Broken Matt Hardy in a little bit,'” Hardy recalled. “And then Vince [McMahon] is like โ€˜Theyโ€™re back in WWE, theyโ€™re the Hardy Boyz.โ€™”

Hardy continued, “And then later on, whenever I did do Woken Matt Hardy, the WWE version. Itโ€™s so funny because we sat down, we talked for 30 minutes about what the character was or whatever. He says, โ€˜Well they keep doing, delete, delete, delete, delete, they wonโ€™t stop that sh*t. I guess we have to give it to them.โ€™ So that became just part of who I am now.”
