WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker has opened up about one of the most criticized matches of his legendary career: the Brothers of Destruction vs. D-Generation X clash at WWE Crown Jewel 2018 in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, The Deadman didn’t hold back, referring to the infamous tag match as a complete “train wreck,” and detailing the numerous mishaps that plagued the bout from start to finish.
“We Got To Redeem Ourselves”
The match marked the in-ring return of Shawn Michaels after an eight-year retirement and was hyped as a once-in-a-lifetime clash between two legendary teams. However, the match quickly unraveled. Undertaker jokingly told Michaels on the podcast:
“We got to redeem ourselves, man. We got to run it back in Saudi…”
“Wheels Fell Off… And Then It Got Ugly”
The Undertaker ran through a laundry list of what went wrong during the match. Notably, Triple H tore his pectoral muscle early in the contest, and Kane’s mask was accidentally dislodged, leaving the match without some of its signature mystique.
“If you ever thought you could, the wheels fell off, and then it got ugly,” Undertaker said. “Could it have gone any worse? Kane losing the mask. Paul [Triple H] rips his back. You talk about a train wreck… any match you could ever think of, this was it.”
He added that while the performance was difficult to stomach at the time, it’s now something he can look back on and laugh about—with a touch of disbelief.
“It bothered me that night, and for a while. But now it’s almost funny—it’s a great story to tell, because no one would ever believe that those four guys would have such a cluster.”
A Polarizing Final Chapter
WWE Crown Jewel 2018 remains one of the most polarizing events in WWE history. The tag team main event, despite the star power involved, is widely remembered for its miscues and unfortunate timing. It also served as the final in-ring appearance for Shawn Michaels, who has remained retired ever since.
