As PWMania.com previously reported, CM Punk reportedly wanted to return to WWE but the company “turned him down” and he is not expected to return for the time being.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, a claim that Punk was recently scheduled for a call with a few WWE board members is false. Meltzer had the following to say about Punk possibly returning to WWE:
“Those in creative have not been told of anything involving him and those who would normally be in the know about these things, including on the big surprises like Cody Rhodes stuff before anyone else, don’t know anything. That doesn’t mean he’s not coming, just the back stories regarding his coming aren’t accurate.”
There is also speculation that CM Punk is the person wearing the “Devil” mask on AEW television. There were several references to Punk in the November 8th, 2023 issue of Dynamite, including the following:
* Throwing Anthony Bowns through glass (Jack Perry/Punk glass story)
* Kenny Omega referring to The Young Bucks as children (Punk said during the AEW All Out 2022 post-show media scrum, “I work with f*cking children”).
* MJF claiming to be the “real” world champion (Punk stated the same earlier this year).
In response to the Punk/Devil rumor, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com stated on Twitter/X, “it would be a gigantic work on everyone in the company if so, but I think it would also be an incredible reveal and story.”
