Veteran wrestling personality Jim Cornette has weighed in on Carlitoโs recent WWE departure, offering strong praise for the former United States and Intercontinental Championโs performance during his second stint with the company.
On the latest episode of Jim Cornetteโs Drive-Thru, Cornette reflected on Carlitoโs two-year run, which began with his surprise return at WWE Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico. The appearance led to Carlito re-signing with WWE and becoming a key part of the Latino World Order (LWO) storyline on SmackDown.
โHeโs had a nice, what, two-year run since he came back on that Puerto Rico pay-per-view,โ Cornette said. โAnd he looked in better shape than half the guys on the roster.โ
Cornette also praised Carlitoโs in-ring work, noting that he consistently performed at a high level, often outshining younger talent.
โHeโs looked good, and when heโs had to work, heโs, as weโve mentioned a couple times, done better than most of the f**king guys that have been on the roster for a while, but are much younger,โ Cornette added.
Carlitoโs most recent WWE run saw him join The Judgment Day faction on Raw after turning on the LWO. While he didnโt wrestle regularly, Carlito was featured in several key backstage segments and special matches.
Despite WWE choosing not to renew his contract, Cornette believes Carlito made a valuable impact during his run.
โHe was a valuable member of the cog in the wheel of the group,โ Cornette stated, referencing his Judgment Day role.
Carlito recently confirmed his free agent status on Instagram, posting: โBack in business!! #fullyavailable #nocontract #libre #ready #noworries.โ
