WWE NXT Review – October 17, 2023
NXT Tag Team Titles #1 Contenders 10 Team Bada Bing Bada Boom Battle Royal
Out The Mud (Lucien Price & Bronco Nima) vs. Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson) vs. Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) vs. Creed Brothers (Julius & Brutus) vs. Brawling Brutes (Ridge Holland & Butch) vs. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade vs. Demon Kemp & Drew Gulak vs. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger vs. Josh Briggs & Brooks Jansen vs. Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo
All 10 teams start going at it before Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen immediately send Damon Kemp over the top rope and to the outside then Bronco Nima sends Tank Ledger over the top rope.
Lucien Price looks to toss Butch over the top rope but he hangs on. Briggs looks to send Wolfgang packing but Wolfgang hangs on and pulls Briggs over the top rope and on the apron with him. Jensen then looks to attack him but Wolfgang low bridges him out of the ring.
Edris Enofe & Malik Blade double team on Ridge Holland in the corner but Holland sends both men crashing to the outside over the top rope with a double back body drop.
Mark Coffey hangs on to the top as he’s tossed out of the ring and Wolfgang slides out to help him. Brutus Creed then sends Coffey tumbling on top of Wolfgang.
Price beats down Angel Garza in the corner as Brawling Brutes look to eliminate Nima but Nima hangs on but Scrypts comes in out of nowhere and sends Brawling Brutes & Out The Mud out of the ring.
Brawling Brutes & OTM continue brawling on the outside leaving the final 3 teams inside the ring Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo, Chase U & Creed Brothers.
Julius Creed sends Carrillo over the top rope but the refs don’t see it so Carrillo slide back inside and send Creed Brothers over the top rope with the referees not noticing that they had been sent over the top rope as we are down to the final 2 & we get normal tag match.
Andre Chase goes right after Angel Garza and tags out to Duke Hudson & Hudson wears down Garza then tags Chase back in as we go to a break.
After the break Garza pins Chase but Chase kicks out before Garza rains down right hands and fires off several headbutts before tagging in Carrillo. Carrillo wears down Chase and sends him crashing into the corner then lands a splash then tags in Garza.
Chase sends him crashing into the corner and looks to tag in Hudson but Garza prevents him from doing so. Chase fires off right hands on him then makes the hot tag out to Hudson. Carrillo tags in and Hudson catches him with a belly 2 belly suplex.
He executes the Chase U right hands then catches Garza with them then delivers a chokeslam to Carrillo and tags Chase back in & he delivers a crossbody and goes for a pin but Carrillo kicks out.
Carrillo delivers a sit out powerbomb to Chase and goes for a pin but Chase kicks out then we see Creed Brothers then reappear and Brutus captures the referee’s attention as Julius pulls Carrillo out of the ring. Chase takes advantage & rolls up Garza for the win.
Winners & #1 Contenders To The NXT Tag Team Titles: Chase U
We then head over to a video from Blair Davenport & she challenges Gigi Dolin to a match at Halloween Havoc.
After the break we head to a video from Lexis King & he announces that he will be debuting next week at Halloween Havoc.
Carmelo Hayes reminisces over the great week he had last week then says life is crazy and he feels like he’s living in a video game.
Before he can continue Baron Corbin’s music hits and he heads down. He says he’s not about to listen to Hayes be a fanboy for the next 10 minutes then says fans should be in the stands rather than the ring. He recalls talking asking for an autograph and taking pictures with John Cena & Cody Rhodes last week. He says if Hayes focused on being a Superstar rather than a fan he might still be NXT Champion.
Dijak’s music hits and he appears. Dijak says they should be focused on what he’s going to do to them tonight then tells Hayes all the showboating he does won’t matter when he’s looking into his eyes while they’re in the ring together. Corbin informs Dijak that no one is looking into his eyes because he’s wearing sunglasses and Dijak says he sees Corbin standing in the back crying and complaining about not having his hand shaken. Corbin asks Dijak what he’s yelling about and Hayes tells him that although he hasn’t been on a jersey, he’ll have one made specially for him.
NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov appears on the Titan Tron and addresses all 3 men. He says they should be focusing on their match rather than talking then informs them that he will be watching their Triple Threat #1 Contenders match closely. He says Cody Rhodes made one last decision before stepping aside as special General Manager and that was to make their Triple Threat into a Fatal 4 Way.
Trick Williams’ music hits as he’s revealed as the 4th competitor to the shock of Hayes then Dijak & Corbin are quick to point out Williams’ betrayal of Hayes & Williams tells Hayes that him being added to the match changes nothing. Hayes looks to speak but Corbin cuts him off and says him being added to the match changes everything. He says Williams went into business for himself then tells Hayes that Williams did it all behind his back. Hayes tells Dijak and Corbin that he won’t let them throw him off his game and says he’s willing to put anyone down to end up back on top. Dijak asks if that applies to Williams and he stares down Hayes.
Corbin & Dijak go after Hayes & Williams but Hayes & Williams take them down.
Fallon Henley spoke with the participants of the Women’s Breakout Tournament before Tiffany Stratton interrupted. Stratton talks trash about Henley saying that the participants should aim to be more like her and less like Henley.
Quarter Final Match Of The 2023 Women’s Breakout Tournament
Karmen Petrovic vs. Jaida Parker
Match starts off with a lock up then Jaida Parker delivers a right hand but Karmen Petrovic fires back with one of her own and follows it up with a knee to Parker’s midsection.
Parker lands a pair of shoulder tackles and sends Petrovic’s shoulder crashing into the mat but Petrovic fires back with a roundhouse kick and locks in Code Of Silence & Parker is forced to tap out.
Winner By Submission: Karmen Petrovic (She will face Lola Vice in the Semi Finals)
Backstage Tegan Nox was training ahead of her match against Lyra Valkyria before she was met by Natalya. Natalya told Nox she would accompany her to the ring for her match.
Lyra Valkyria vs. Tegan Nox
Match starts off with a lock up then they go back & forth with one another exchange submission holds before Tegan Nox delivers a forearm to Lyra Valkyria’s head.
Valkyria rolls her up but Nox kicks out and lands an uppercut then she ascends to the top rope but Valkyria pulls her down and sends her tumbling to the outside.
She then delivers a baseball kick through the middle rope as we go to a break.
After the break Valkyria & Nox level one another with crossbodies then they exchange forearms with one another before Valkyria lands a kick on Nox’s midsection and follows it up with a suplex.
She delivers a series of kicks across her chest and looks for a crossbody but Nox counters into a t bone suplex then plants her face first and lands a senton in the corner before pinning her once again but Valkyria kicks out and lands an enzuigiri.
They find themselves teetering on the top rope but Nox sends Valkyria crashing into the mat and delivers a cannonball before landing a 2nd one off the apron.
Women’s Tag Team Champion Chelsea Green & Piper Niven then appear at ringside capturing Natalya & Nox’s attention.
Nox slides back inside the ring and rolls up Valkyria but Valkyria kicks out and lands a roundhouse kick for the win.
Winner: Lyra Valkyria
After the match Nox, Natalya, Niven & Green brawl to the back.
Valkyria then grabs a mic and says she told the world no one would come between her and her Women’s Title match at Halloween Havoc next week. She says Women’s Champion Becky Lynch saw something in her back in Ireland that led her to where she is today and while she took the opportunity to become the 1st ever Irish Women’s Champion she was the one who taught her that when one door closes another one opens.
Lynch then appears on the Titan Tron and says she remembers being sent videos by their late friend Dean of Valkyria. She says while Valkyria is really really good she’s even better and when you come for her Women’s Title she comes for the reason she leaves her house. She says she has to fight for it like her life depends on it in order to make her daughter proud then welcomes her to the big time.
Backstage in the locker room Carmelo Hayes confronts Trick Williams about blindsiding him earlier tonight. Hayes says that he thought they agreed for Williams to recapture the North American Title and for him to get back his NXT Title. Williams explains that Hayes said that but they never agreed on it. He says that John Cena gave him some advice last week and he wants another taste of gold. He says Hayes should know the feeling and apologizes for not telling him. Hayes says they are now forced to go against each other and he has to do what he has to. Williams says no matter what happens they will still be the Trick Melo Gang.
After the break we head backstage to Gigi Dolin responding to Blair Davenport’s challenge to a Halloween Havoc match. She declares that it will be Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal before walking over to a wheel and spinning it & the wheel lands on a Lights Out match.
We then see Von Wagner in physical rehabilitation for his injuries at the hands of Bron Breakker as Mr. Stone encourages him.
Kiana James vs. Shotzi
Kiana James delivers a right hand before Shotzi responds with a slap and fires off forearms on her in the corner before landing a crossbody off the middle rope then James sends her crashing into the top turnbuckle face first as we go to a break.
After the break James lands a clothesline on Shotzi but Shotzi fires back with a pair of Sling Blades and a kick then charges at James. James dumps her onto the apron but Shotzi manages to land a kick and plant her.
This sends James to the outside and Shotzi goes flying to level her then she gets James back inside the ring and looks to ascend to the top rope but James pushes her to the outside.
Roxanne Perez then appears at ringside and starts rummaging through James’ handbag. James starts yelling at her and the referee tries to regain control.
Shotzi then grabs the bag as he talks to Perez and hits James with it before tossing it over to her and falling to the mat so the referee sees James with the bag in hand and grabs it from her.
He disposes of it as Shotzi ascends to the top rope & hits the senton for the win.
Winner: Shotzi
Backstage McKenzie Mitchell is with Meta 4 while Heritage Cup Champion Noam Dar called on the phone. Akira Tozawa interrupted Meta 4 and calls out Dar before the interview was cut short to reveal that Trick Williams was attacked backstage.
Kelly Kincaid revealed that Trick Williams was transported into a Hospital and would be removed from the NXT Title #1 Contender’s Match.
After the break we see North American Champion Dominik Mysterio brawling with Nathan Frazer backstage which eventually spills into the ringside area.
Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley eventually intervenes and pulls Mysterio out of the ring as Frazer looks to go for Phoenix Splash.
We then see Shotzi & Roxanne Perez walking around backstage and chatting. They encounter the wheel Gigi Dolin unveiled earlier tonight and Perez asks Shotzi if she can Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal for a match with Kiana James at Halloween Havoc. Shotzi encourages her to do so and it lands on a Devil’s Playground Match.
Quarter Final Match Of The 2023 Women’s Breakout Tournament
Arianna Grace vs. Brinley Reece
Arianna Grace demands that Brinley Reece kiss her hand but Reece refuses to do so and delivers a bodyslam but Grace responds with a pair of suplexes.
Reece lands 3 of her own and delivers a handspring clothesline but Grace escapes and fires back with a modified hip toss for the win.
Winner: Arianna Grace (She will face Kelani Jordan in the Semi Finals)
After the break we see Bron Breakker & Mr Stone get into a verbal exchange with one another backstage. Stone them challenges Breakker to a match at Halloween Havoc and Breakker accepts.
NXT Title #1 Contenders Triple Threat Match
Baron Corbin vs. Dijak vs. Carmelo Hayes
Carmelo Hayes fires off right hands on Dijak & Baron Corbin then Dijak & Corbin look to land a double chokeslam on him but Hayes escapes. Dijak then delivers a backbreaker and looks for a pin but Corbin has the same idea.
They stare one another down before Corbin lands a clothesline then Hayes connects with an enzuigiri on Corbin and looks for a crossbody on Dijak from the top rope but Dijak catches him and plants him.
Dijak & Corbin go at it in the center of the ring and Hayes looks to take down both men but Corbin & Dijak catch him and look to plant him but Hayes counters into a double DDT and looks to pin Corbin but Corbin kicks out and Hayes looks to pin Dijak but Dijak kicks out as well as we go to a break.
After the break Dijak delivers a kick to Corbin into the corner then he walks into a superkick at the hands of Hayes before tossing Hayes on top of Corbin in the corner.
Dijak looks to get Corbin up on his shoulders, but Corbin counters into a back suplex and goes flying off the middle rope with a clothesline to level Hayes.
Dijak dumps him out of the ring and looks to hit Hayes with a chokeslam but Hayes counters into a Codebreaker and ascends to the top rope but Corbin pulls him down and hits a Death Valley Driver to him on the outside.
Corbin gets Hayes back inside the ring before getting caught with a kick from Dijak then Dijak plants Corbin in the ring and goes for a pin but Hayes breaks the fall.
Dijak lands a big boot across Hayes’ face then delivers an elbow to him in the corner.
He sits Hayes on the top rope then joins him up there but Hayes slips out of the way and looks to pull him down but Corbin intervenes and joins Dijak on the ropes.
Hayes then pulls both men down and fires off more right hands on Corbin then Corbin looks to land a chokeslam on Dijak but Dijak sets up for Feast Your Eyes.
Corbin escapes and lands End Of Days but Hayes comes in out of nowhere and hits Nothing But Net on Corbin before pinning Dijak for the win.
Winner & #1 Contender To The NXT Title: Carmelo Hayes
We then head backstage and see Lyra Valkyria watching the action from the locker room. She pulls a picture of herself and Becky Lynch from off the lockers and rips it up telling Lynch that her Women’s Title is hers as she storms off Jade Cargill appears on the television Valkyria was watching the match on and points to her watch.
